Marie wanted some 'nice' music as we were eating dinner this evening. I created a playlist with all the S*!T songs / artists, I mean excellent music I know she likes, from BTO, to Buble, from ELO to Eurythmics etc etc. I plugged the Jriver music serving lappy into the surround sound system in the lounge, using HDMI out which is converted to analogue into the amp by a little and I mean little, converter that does HDMI to analogue sound and VGA (still on that with our Pana plasma panel and it works just fine)... Had to route Jriver to generic output instead of ASIO (WaveIO) that I use on my hifi. That route sounds so much better than 3.5mm lappy jack output to the surround amp - whatever dac is in the converter, it certainly works well. That has kept her happy for hours Happy new year all.

Hey Steve
Grab hold of a Low album I think Marie could go for that, as well as you

They are good aren't they. Story goes when they play live if the audience is noisy they play *quieter*

There's a certain magical element to them. I'm looking forward to the CD arriving although I must admit the Spotify hi-bitrate stream sounds superb on my system.

Like Jeff Beck in the way that you listen to the spaces *between* notes as well as the music

Have you tried The Delines yet? I just sampled Adequate. Not one I'd buy. MOR and too much like a lot of others. Plus female vocals (Tim are you there ?)

Adequate? I think they compare rather well with Low.

IMO of course, I don't see (hear) them in the same league.
Sounds like too many others to me.

Ah well, I played them back to back today and enjoyed both. There are similarities in their style, sound and vocals.
It's what makes music fascinating, we each hear the same noises but prefer different ones!

I played 2 back to back today that I woudl have said before were much the same style - and found a widening gulf
Joan as Policewoman -Real Life - just grows and grows and is becoming a real favourite
Cowboy Junkies - The trinity session - gets less attractive each listen
Odd eh ?

Odd and I wouldn't have thought to compare them, despite having both albums.

Joan gets my vote every time - I prefer The Deep field over her other stuff. Partly cos it exercises the tapped horn subs.

I have many that are next to each other for one reason or another, usually order of purchase, as these 2, currently on the office playlist
And whatsisname with the awful voice sounds good with our Joan - Anthony (& the Johnsons) ?

Anthony (& the Johnsons) ? I bought that based on some good reviews. Never again, utterly horrible noise.

When I first heard the bloke I was amazed - and not in a good way
Lou Reed championed him (why?!)

Listening to Low - The exit papers. Can't really see how it would qualify for Marie's listening tastes. I mean, ELO, Super tramp and BTO it ain't... I quite like it though... I obviously need to hear more albums yet:) The genre is Slowcore apparently!
