Do you realise that the vast majority of players that can play SACD discs will NOT output the sound through the digital output.
For SACD it's through the two RCA outputs or through HDMI. Yes mate but I would like to run my cd's thro a stand alone dac

Hi All I have a Marantz cdp and a Denon dvd/sacd player that I use for transports thru an Musical Fidelity V90 dac and can tell that the Denon sounds more ever handed ,more fully bodied and not as bright as my Marantz and I didn't realise that transport can really make a deference, amp I going nut's or what ? I'm not surprised the Denon outperforms the Marantz. Playing SACDs requires much more precision and the drive mech is probably a lot better at keeping tracking with smaller movements causing less spiking of the power rails, as well as getting a better read from the laser. As we've said a lot in the streamer threads, everything matters in digital replay and the transport for disc playback certainly falls in that category. Make sure it's well isolated, too. At the very least, some good absorbent footers, going right up to Black Ravioli Big Pads. Thanks Martin

which dvd player is it Tim.If its the 2910/3910 it has Burr Brown DSD1791 24-bits, 192-kHz Audio D/A converter (x4)you can set the bass management in its settings i use 1 in the computer/office room into a standac and get very good results, the only floor is some people get macro blocking when playing videos its DCDi Faroudja FLI-2310 chip.i only use it for sound, yes it give`s a warm sound good for dvd-a and sacd though.i also have it sitting on top of a Marantz Ki cd player and i think it sounds better than the marantz Hi Mate the model is an old model 1920 i'm running it thru a MF v90 dac it sounds ok for 20 quid

I found what goes into a DAC extremely important. Prior to getting my current streamer, I used to have a Cambridge Audio CXC transport with a Beresford DAC and that combo sounded great. Prior to getting to that point, I had tried the DAC with a Denon DVD player (incomplete sound, nice top end, ok bottom end, but no real in-between) a Naim streamer (Bright and dull sound). So therefore I know exactly what you mean Tim, it does seem to make quite a lot of difference, why that is technically I have no clue and naysayers will argue it isn't possible, but it clearly is. Yes Paul, thank you

From laser to output sockets the chances are that the majority of components, and/or their topography within the machines, will be different, ergo they will sound different to some degree or other. Also, what you have are two vastly different players that you're *using* as transports, not two transports. CD players sound different. That's my two penn'orth, anyway. Totally unscientific, and with no proof whatsoever. Like most hi-fi forum posts in fact. The only difference is that it actually addresses your question and doesn't suggest that you buy something you don't need for a price you cannot afford. Thanks for the info Slinger ,always very helpful mate.
