It's all built from the original deck, theres no extra parts other than a link bar to alter the on off linkage Cheers ant

It would start from about 450 depending on the spec and the condition of the motor unit provided as the basis. If like this one, the motor unit was completely knackered and needed a Shedload of new bits it'd be more expensive. I built this one from a knackered one so I could get a feel for the extra work involved and be able to price accordingly. I build each one on an individual basis, I'd rather do that as everyone has different requirements. I did one with a linn ekos on it for a friend who commissioned it and the one steve has with the mayware formula 4 on. I have another person looking at having one done with the top audiomods arm fitted to it, so everyone is different. Id rather tailor them to requirements based on a standard plinth form than just churn them out. If anyone wants a listen to it, I'm not far from Doncaster, I'd like any feedback anyone cares to give to improve them Cheers ant

Thought you guys might like to see the build I'm working on at the moment. If you have looked at my website or know me from elsewhere you may be aware that I build my own design of lenco turntable. I decided a few months back to build a demo one as the others I built are long gone to their respective owners. This is the dry build before the plinth gets veneered to make sure it all works as it should. Its a recipie for disaster to do all the finishing work on the main plinth before doing the dry build. I know, I have done this then had to alter something and made a whole load of work for myself. It doesnt look like much at this stage, but at this point there is only the veneer to go on and the iec socket to be fitted which has to be done after veneering anyway. Power is lashed up in a way I wouldn't recommend to anyone who wants to avoid shocks, the bare ends of the motor wire is shoved into a figure 8 lead and taped up. Don't do this it's stupid. But does allow me to test without having to finish it. The veneer will be American black walnut to contrast with the silver trim ring and armboard. I may clear coat the veneer, but I'll test this on an offcut before I commit. I usually use a Danish oil for finishing. The underside and inside of the plinth cutouts are painted matt black along with the deck plate and all the levers and linkages. The arm that's on it is a modified rb251 with an audio technica at-f7 mc cartridge, though if someone was to borrow it to demo it this would be replaced with a stock rb250 or their own arm. It will be used in this state until my veneer arrives so it runs in the new parts it has had fitted Cheers ant

Saw a fantastic film the other day that i have to watch when it's on, children of men which is based loosely on the novel of the same names by p d James. A superb film although I didn't agree with some of the changes to the novel but can see why they did change them. The continuous action shots are some of the best shots I've ever seen in a film, putting you right there on the shoulder of the protagonists. Some great performances from the ensemble too. The pause in battle near the end I find very emotive Another is city of God that i watched a long time ago on film 4. Utterly superb

I'd expect it to be rather good, ive had quite a few dd Sony units over the years and found that the drive unit itsself always seems to be impeccable but let down a little by the arm. Sony did build to a price point, but the motors tended to be very good indeed and swallow alot of the cost. The arms tend to be where the cost savings were made. This was worse on their automatic units as the electronics cost a packet at the time, and taking them to bits was difficult as the circuit boards would hold all the electronics. Extricated the motor and associated control electronics from the rest of the functions was a pain in the arse. This type though would be good enough for any arm you care to put on it. Thought it would seem a shame to break this deck up given the condition

They have changed the listing since I originally saw it, it was 1500 as a complete package, 500 quid on its own now I reckon they will struggle to get that for it.
You'd struggle to get a decent 401 in a plinth for 500 quid

I know that site, ive been on it for bits and bats before. This time I read some of the articles which i hadnt before. The practical hifi 1979 article is particularly interesting, showing with nearly 40 years hindsight the hifi press' role in the disappearance of jbe. The fact that the writer could barely tell a difference between the linn and the jbe in his own system is particularly interesting in itsself, as it shows the pains he took to make his own test fair. As is his obvious anger at his press colleagues at their lack of integrity in his eyes, and his nailing of his colours to the mast in favour of the jbe when nobody else would. A sharp critique of the hifi press at the time. Personally, my jbe is my go-go deck when i build a turntable, or consider buying one. if the new build or new deck doesn't beat it, it's back to the drawing board to make it do so. I switch the arm and cart as a oner to the new build decks so its all kept fair. I recently heard 2 of my lenco builds, one with a mayware formula 4 and shure m97 and one with an ekos and kontrapunkt b alongside the jbe and was both happy and disappointed at the same time as the lenco's were both as good as or better in all respects. So i gave the jbe a service to bring it back, and was less disappointed. I think it was ahead of its time at the time and stacks up extremely well today

Saw a listing on ebay this morning for a jbe series 3 slate dd for 1500 quid. Eh? Thinks I, so I had a look thinking the seller was quite mad at that price. Turns out it has an sme 309 on it and dl103r. Considering the price of a new 309 is 1350 quid and 103 r is a couple of hundred, the price doesn't look so far fetched. Far roo rich for me,but I've always wanted an sme v or one of the derivatives thereof. Bet it sounds quite nice. Just type jbe into ebay then select sound and vision to narrow it down Can't figure out how to get the eBay phone app to give me the link

Here it is And something I'm working on at the moment The air bearing arm isn't mine, a friend has very kindly loaned it to me. This was just to see if it would fit. I will be trying it on the jbe first as the lenco isn't remotely finished yet Cheers ant

Music, pretty much anything. I had a chance to sit down and listen to something for the first time in about a week this afternoon. Listened to dire straits first album and then Mozart piano concerto no 21.
Kit, no preferences at all any more. Im currently using a jbe series 3 slate turntable with a heavily modified rb251 and an audio technica at-f7 mc cart, A musical fidelity xlps s, A passive pre, An img stageline sta 152 p/a amp as a power amp and my metronome speakers I also have another 8 turntables in the house, a valve amp I built, and loads of other stuff in various states of disassembly. So no preference anymore, whatever sounds nice
