In light of having a paradise built i will no longer being using this so its up for sale soon. It has served me well over the years with no problems. Those of you that know the model will know it has an excellent mm/mc phono stage,it was the reason i bought it after reading various threads on the net about how good it was. Its a nelson pass design also. Prices have risen sharply for this pre amp in the last 4 years, have a look here what other sellers are asking . www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=+nakamichi+ca-5&_sacat=0If your interested please pm me,it will be for sale in about a week. £300 + postage.

Due to a recent change in turntables im selling my elite rock 2. its in lovely condition having spent most of its life in the loft boxed up in the original Townshend box. The guy i bought it from told me his daughter was given this as a present from a guy called Mario who worked for Townshends, she wasn't into vinyl so it was kept in the loft for 30 odd years! This is confirmed by its condition and bearing,no wear at all! It comes with the original manual, tools and bottles of fluid.the damping paddle is also present. A genuine new belt is also supplied. A cracking turntable that rarely comes up for sale in this condition!!! The turntable is in Brighton but could deliver within a 50 miles radius for fuel costs. £500.

so as the tt's up and running i thought id try adding mass to the headshell,as you may know i made a 8g cartridge weight just in case. for ease i used blue tak in 2g increments,as i increased the weight i could hear the sound become more fuller in the base and mid range,i went up to 6g still liking what i heard then i put the 8g weight on top of the headshell.
i still was hearing fullness but noticed at the same time the high end was becoming more distant with a hint of the sound stage seemingly narrowing behind the speakers.
time to start decreasing...i ended up going between 3 and 4 grams and everything came back to life,i couldn't make my mind up so went with 3.5.after a few hours of listening i went back to no mass added just to confirm my thoughts and the cartridge sounded very thin with no meat to the bass so it seems for my arm 3.5 is the sweet spot.
another thing i noticed was during the adding of the mass at the front end i changed counter weight plates, remember i had some more plates made up in bronze just for this type of experiment. with the different weights i can balance out the front end with the added benefit of varying the distance from the pivot point, once i have a proper 3.5 g headshell weight i will check this out this out further to see if more improvement can be gained.
for whats it worth im getting lateral resonance at 9hz according to the hfi news test record and on paper according to compliance figures i should be around 12,make of that what you will. all i know is its sounding bloody marvelous right now

thanks, i enjoyed the 2m black but after hearing the decca it made it sound very thin,i sold it straight away.lol it does need some careful setting up,i found a slight tail down worked best.if i had to go the top mm route again id probably go with a nagaoka mp-500. the ha-500 is sounding very good mate .

thanks doc,ive been strangely very patient getting all the bits together for this, ive added a denon ha-500 head amp to go with the cartridge. its sounding very good to my ears but what im most happy about is the denon cartridge, ive had in the past a 2m black, decca c4e,cadenza black and seemed to spend my time analyzing the sound, then driving myself mad with vta set up. i dont feel the need with the denon,it just plays the music if you know what i mean. i used to think the stylus profile was the most important thing,i know different now

@david Brooks. Could you confirm that these fuses have the appropriate UK/EU safety mark on them? Simon (strange behaviour from you I have to say) and other folks its the manufacturer you should be contacting, there are 100's of sellers worldwide offering these fuses for sale. If you have concerns about the fuses being fit for purpose take it up with the manufacturer. Here you are www.synergisticresearch.com/contact/you mean to say your selling them and dont know? lol

whilst im waiting for the zetas new counterweights to arrive, ive knocked up a headshell weight from brass. just to give me the option to add mass if needed for the denon 103sa im not sure of the exact weight yet but it max out my 5g tracking weight scales.
