I use Unifi kit at home. It's great stuff. Very reliable and the APs have a good range.

Was wondering if a long range external wireless AP would bridge the gap?

Thanks for the tip Greg.
I was going to use a fanless NUC but these seemed a better option. I'll keep investigating.

Shared room for me although my wife lets me get away with a lot!! To be honest though its me who likes the convenience of digital based music and the use of a UI to control everything. If I could afford a Devialet expert pro then it would probably be on my list of upgrade options. Greg, I have also been looking at the Sonic Transporter. Which model did you go for and how much import duty did you end up paying?

In terms of finding out a little more about the microRendu and sMS-200 products, there are reviews by a Dutch chap here: I've watched a few of his videos and like his approach. I've seen the reviews he has done for both of these units. He has the microRendu in his own setup but preferred the sMS-200. He seemed to imply that Sonore are developing a new version of the microRendu to compete with the sMS-200 and is waiting to see what they come up with.

I already use a few PI's with picoreplayer but have heard that these are a step up in sound quality and yes PSU is an important part of it. Greg uses a Longdog Audio one. They both have far more options than just roon and tidal, check the links above, otherwise I wouldn't even consider them. For instance they both have squeezelite as an option which suits my needs. I already have a USB DAC as well.

Wasn't sure of the title of this as I wanted to ask people their opinions of the Sonore microRendu and the SOtM sMS-200 but there are probably other options out there that I don't know about yet(apart from the RPI which I have 3 of). So does anyone have any thoughts on these two products or others? Also the all important PSU to power them? Also please change the subject if you think its a little too generic!

Mods I'd quite like that if you could as I'd like to ask a few more questions about microRendu vs sotm 200 but i could start a new thread?

Wired sounds better both on my previous Touch and with the Pi. Less jitter and lag. With the Pi, a wi-fi dongle runs on the USB subsystem, too. I get the feeling the lack of a wired network is going to bug you later? I had the same issue when I moved 3 years ago. I had an electrician put the cables in but did all the terminations myself. Very pleased I did it at the start.

Sorry if you have already been asked but are you putting Ethernet in? I thought from earlier discussions that you stream music as well.

I'm the James Colin is referring to, the big SECA I made wasn't my first build, I've spent a lot of time building a DIY dac called a DDDAC. For me when making the DDDAC I didn't find too bad, I would say it was a fairly complicated project and my biggest problem was my lack of patience, rather than lack of skill, but I've always been fairly good with my hands. However when I did make mistakes , and there were a few, as I had no electrical knowledge I wasn't able to work out what the problem was but the guys on DIY audio were brilliant and very helpful, if you go for the self build and get stuck post some pictures up here and you will find people will be all over it to help you out. I would say go for it, but if in doubt you have the option of the pre built boards. From looking at the DIY boards they seem quite simple compared to the larger SECA that I built. In terms of knowing cable , switches, sockets , cases, heat sinks etc to me that is the easy part and I or Paul , quickie, can help. Hi James, I was thinking I might be better off starting with Colin's pre-built boards. At least that will give me an opportunity to understand how it's all put together then if I want to build another one later I could go down a more DIY route. Hi Colin, What do you supply with the pre-built SECA board?

I have had experience of using a soldering iron my main issue would be where to source power supplies, heat sink, a case, cable connectors or any of the other extra bits I will need.

Hi Colin, I would love to have go at building one of these amps. Is it advisable for a complete amp DIY novice to attempt?
