We took delivery of the screen today. It's big!
Wall mount arrives to tomorrow. As does the extra recliner sofa and two recliner chairs.
I connected the screen up to a Sonos Beam we have via EARC, and Najda / hifi 2 channel up via the optical out.
Even this crude non proper 5.2 setup sounds pretty amazing for films.
Real rumble, thunder and awe from the tapped horns! Clear audio voice etc from the SH50s. Sonos Beam doing essentially centre and L+R rear via a pair of Play 1s.
We test watched / listened to some of The Martian film. Must try one with more music, but that will be one the screen is up.
It will certainly do whilst we figure out what to do for a more proper 5.2, 6.2, 7.2🙂 solution.
Just need the low equipment rack now!
This currently leaves 2 channel Hifi setup completely unmolested.
I tested out more drum solos. The SH50 LF and Tapped horns really kick and work in unison well.

I listened to some drum solos this evening. Toad - Cream reunion live at the Albert Hall is fantastic. This track surprised me with punch Listen to Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin on Qobuz open.qobuz.com/track/17110887

Cleared the room. Using the 2 seater sofa and the 2 sheepskin chairs and associated stools, I laid the room out.
Was able to sit in all positions to assess the sound. Used Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, kind of Cinematic with Richard Burton's voice etc. Horsell Common and the Heat Ray sounded epic! The lid coming off me daughter jump.
These speakers give such a good coverage and stereo even sitting way out wide - bodes well.
Also assessed how high the rear seats need to be above the front. It's not much as the screen will be quite high up. 65" TV is perfect size.
With the Velux blinds down and door shut it is dark, dark black in there, even when bright & sunny outside!
Daughters are already talking mood lighting!
I'm getting an usher's (remember them) torch😂

You had furniture to each side where the seats will go, Steve. Are they going to be removed? Yes, it will be minimalist. I've already started clearing it out. Amazing how much 'useful' stuff you collect. SP-10 and Fidelity Research FR64s arm to go on sale. Our daughters are very excited. They've been wanting us to do it for years. Just required the right speaker catalyst.

Plan idea. To scale. These are individual recliners. Will work fine for what's called viewing reclining rather than full recline - we'll see. The footprint half reclined is shown. Moving the SH50s back again 🙄 would give a bigger screen clear line of site. Gear can go under the screen or off to the left. Haven't put the rear speakers in. I'm looking at Denon AV receivers. I'm motivated and going to have a clear out in the room and move the 2 seater recliner we have into test position. We have two Scandinavian sheepskin, Beech chairs up there as well. So a test siting or sitting is easy. Will see how big a compromise an off centre listening spot is. Nothing like as big a problem with the SH50 compared to the beamier round horns. With their time alignment needs they really were only sweet in one spot. Not so the SH50s.

Have you given any thought to the range of ice creams and snacks that will be on offer?! This looks like being a fun project. Oohhhh yes

Right! New project😀 Hifi room and.... Home cinema room! The whole family have expressed an interest in family movie times🙂 Esp in a purposed AV experience. A 65" or 70" TV will fit on the front wall. Something like 3 of these abreast, in 2 rows seats 6. Rear row on raised platform to give cinema experience to rear row. Or Still leaves room down the side to access and listening spot for hifi only.. The Danley SH50s are perfect as Left, Right and the AV boys say no centre required. Tapped horns as subs.. 2 cheapies are rears. A 5.1 AV would split the cinema sound off to Najda (doing X/O etc duty) for SH50 L and R. Perhaps a separate sub woofer would make it easier, driven from AV receiver directly, same for rears. Tapped horns amp would be off then. AV receiver off, and Najda input selecting Rendu all would be as normal. Apparently/reportely Bill Gates and George Lucas etc use SH50s in their Danley home cinema systems - got me thinking...

Yes, once visionary CEOs get complacent / lose their way.
Mind you, we are hardly their target audience. I can't prise my daughter's or their boyfriends away from Spotify, no matter what! They do send me podcasts to listen to from time to time! All sorts of interesting subjects too. Different strokes...

Is the spade for the 'shallow grave', Steve?! 😂 No, it's a spade for digging up scores of Box hedging that lined our flower borders - all stone dead, moth caterpillars and then blight got them all. Lots of properties all around here all lost theirs too!

The round exponential mid bass horns, once powered by Eninence Kappa 15As, trialled with the Legendary Vitavox 15" drivers, then used for a couple of years with JBL2220 15" drivers - then reworked and extended and used with Kappa 12A drivers for several years; are now out in temp storage, on their way to either a new home (unlikely), or the skip. I'll keep the rear drivers mounting boxes as they are nice 21mm birch plywood and can be dismantled and the wood reused. Had them 11 years in one form or another. The SH50 / Synergy system is too compelling 😃 not going back. This evening I'm testing the SH50s further away from the front wall - nearer the sofa. 12' from listening spot. Might bring them into the room a bit also. Each change requires a quick measuring and phase time alignment with the tapped horns. The good thing is the SH50 works as a unit. Once the 3 drivers are set up with the measuring mic 1m away, EQd and phase coherent, that's it for them👍 Also as they are horn / reflex bass there's no extra kick sitting further away, as with front loaded bass horns.

Like a BIG jet taking off, or more like an Epstein drive from The Expanse 😀 Spans 18 to 30Hz with a 25Hz peak!

I assume you enqueue new tracks while playing? The tracks show under the playlist tab? Can skip forward in the Now Playing tab (as long as you have enqueued multiple tracks). Never assume! No, I don't do that. In fact, I don't appear to use the queue at all. I do one of: - search for an album and play it - search for a track and play it - browse through a Qobuz playlist and play a track I'm not looking for the next track at any time because I'm busy listening to the current one. Ah, that strategy is bound to cause Bubble / Rendu lock up for me sooner or later.. I found others on the internet had the same flashing 0.00 in the Now Playing view. Like on pause but total lost of communication and function. Luckly the Rendu control panel can always be Http'd to reboot. I sumised this is why Sonore don't specifically recommend the Bubble app. They must have had it reported to them over the years. Of course the bug might have been fixed in later Rendus but website recs lag sometimes.

I played my system for a musical friend today. He plays the guitar really well!
He's into the heavier side of things, think artists Tool and the like. He was quite happy that I opened with ACDC Tunderstruck✊ Then played some Tool tracks for him.
He commented "Usually ordinary 'hifi' falls a bit short"
He was amazed at the Sound PRESSURE Level effortlessly achieved by the SH50s.
I explained the background of them, and how pared down mine are compared to full driver compliment😱 Full compliment would give me +6dB😁
Then onto John Butler Trio and Nils Lofgren for some lively acoustic guitar.
Could not get over the level of detail and speed. Noted the soundstage too. He's using headphones and ear buds mostly.
Played a couple of room shakers too, just to really shock and awe. These typically have 25 to 30Hz bass, no problem rattling your fillings with fidelity. Workout for the tapped horns Skipped the 18Hz church organ - wrong target audience 🙂
I'm still impressed by these things.
Gonna be interesting times ahead demoing..

That is what sooner or later causes failure for me! Enqueuing and playing from the queue is the way I can tiptoe around Bubble/Rendu and get a session out of it. I've only used Bubble. Keep adding to the one playlist until it breaks or I break it Need an adult to show me what to do 😀 I assume you enqueue new tracks while playing? The tracks show under the playlist tab? Can skip forward in the Now Playing tab (as long as you have enqueued multiple tracks). You can clear the playlist queue at any time. Under that tab, top right - 3 slightly slanting horizontal lines. That might buy you more stability - not always though. I usual do that at the end of say an album. Or before I change tack and enque more tracks..

You don't even add an album to listen to? You don't press play on a playlist? I do both, I play an album or play a (Qobuz) playlist. I don't add anything to a queue. That is what sooner or later causes failure for me! Enqueuing and playing from the queue is the way I can tiptoe around Bubble/Rendu and get a session out of it.

Found it ! 3 dots, vertical in Playstore/Bubble Auto enabled already What I now need to do is find out what some of these apps I have installed are for and why I have them 😂 Some of it will be bloatware, unless you have a Google pixel and even then you don't require half of them.. Samsung are I understand, one of worst for bloatware.

You don't even add an album to listen to? You don't press play on a playlist?
If I feed single tracks to the queue then it works better, but that isn't full functionality imo.

Bubble lasted about 1.5hr then stopped. It was not the flashing 0.00 but just as fatal🙂 Couldn't revive without reboot. Back on mConnect now..
The two seem to handle adding tracks / playlists differently, if time to do so is observed.
Bubble adds then all at once it seems. It takes a while (sometimes quite a while) to get the added confirmation and sometimes just as long go start playing the first track, sometimes not.
mConnect it's instant play, there's no delay. I'm guessing it spoon feeds the Renderer track by track. Getting out of the way each time. My older Rendu perhaps has a smaller buffer / can't manage the stack properly at times or something?
