Oh gosh, that's bad news. I bought his first album with no prior knowledge of him or his music. I still vividly remember the first time I played it. 'I'll Drown in My Tears' was the track that made me stop what I was doing and play it again and again.

I'm rather shocked by this. I was actually holding a copy of 'Songs for a Tailor' in my hand when I heard the news.

On the 5th of November we lost flamenco guitarist Manitas de Plata, aged 93. The 1960s were his heyday but guitarists everywhere should know his name. If you're a fan of The Gypsy Kings then you'll have heard his sons Diego, Paco, and Tonino (Baliardo) as well as his nephews Paul, François (a.k.a.Canut), Patchaï, Nicolas, and André (Reyes.)
