The Equilizer: excellent return of the excellent Denzel Washington in what he does best - clever action movies. Couldn't work out whether it was meant to be based on the original TV series but as a one of film it worked well.. 8/10 definately worth a watch

Paddington:
I really liked this up tempoed interpretation of the Paddington character into movie. I was worried it was going to be pants (as I found the Lego movie to be) but it worked really well.

22 Jump Street:
Utter utter utter tosh, complete waist of time, tries to use all of the original jokes to ill effect. Just crap!
1/10 although I struggled to give it this higher score!

LOL - you always have to keep 0/10 in reserve for Hercules Goes to New York.

Not sure I would call it 'remarkable', but it's a highly enjoyable and heart warming true story about an NFL player, who came from nothing helped by a very philanthropic family. If the characters are depicted correctly, I certainly makes you think about stereotyping and how wrong you can sometimes be? Great film and I could happily watch it again. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Blind_Side_%28film%29

Not exactly "high art" but I thoroughly enjoyed Guardians Of The Galaxy. Full marks in fact to the majority of Marvel films I've seen for remembering not to take themselves seriously. For instance, to quote from G.O.T.G....
Well, on my planet, we have a legend about people like you. It's called Footloose. And in it, a great hero, named Kevin Bacon, teaches an entire city full of people with sticks up their butts that, dancing, well, is the greatest thing there is.
I cracked up at that one, as did Kevin Bacon apparently.

Spooks: The Greater GoodBeing a self-confessed Spooks fan, I was nervous about this being yet another travesty of a TV series taken to the big screen. I needn't have worried. From the opening credits, the [spooks] name, through dear old Harry, to the relentless action sequences, sudden deaths and twisty-turny plots, this is pure 'Big Spooks' and quite thrilling. More edge of the seat than Bond, it's a great homage to the series that was one of the very best British TV productions. Kit Harrington does a good job and fits well into the team. 8/10.

Gone GirlEveryone we know kept telling us we had to see this film. Last night, we finally settled down together and started it with some anticipation. After a few scenes I paused, turned to Ruth and said "what the f*ck"? The script appears to have been written in Japanese couplets by an out-of-work teenager and translated between two dictionaries before arriving at the dialogue, which is then delivered in a Philip Marlowe-esque drawled narrative. Never before have I seen a film where the people are less believable and say more risible things to each other. Nothing at all is natural. The plot becomes increasingly ludicrous and any empathy with the characters (in all honesty, it started with none) vaporises. I couldn't care less about him or her and became desperate to see its over-long running time come to an end. The 'twist' at least made me burst out laughing. Goodness knows what all the fuss was about, this frankly appalling drivel cost me two hours of my life. 2/10.

Gone Girl isn't much cop and is waaaay too long (and I paid good money to see it at the cinema) but 2/10 seems harsh. I'd give it 3/10.

I really enjoyed 'Mrs Henderson Presents'on TV last week... Judy Dench and Bob Hoskins are great fun and the film has a lovely, warm nostalgic feel about it.

CoherenceThis film shows just how a really good SF film can be made on a shoestring budget. Impossible to describe without spoiling the premise, just watch it for its excellent ensemble acting, intricate detail, mind-bending story-line and all-round great entertainment. Like Memento, you will need to watch this more than once.

Not a film but if you enjoyed the Imitation Game then there's a fantastic documentary on BBC I player just now entitled Bletchley Park - code breaking so forgotten genius that tells the story of Gordon Welchman.
Well, well worth an hour of your life.

On PBS is a fantastic, and sobering, three-part documentary on the Manhattan Project.
