I bought a Stiff Records compilation, Jeff Beck Band and Madonna (True Blue for the wife), and Gizmodrome (Stewart Copeland, Mark King, Adrian Below and Gizmodrome) all on LP.

Come on guys, I'm surely not the only one buying ( self) interesting music. I have Barbirolli's 6th and 9th. His 9th is desert island material. Solti's 8th is stupendous. Rattle's 10th is fab but not sure about his other Mahler recordings. However, his 2nd live was supercharged. I like Beethoven done well by small orchestra (like Marriner's wonderful 3rd) but the 9th has to be done big like Karajan's or Jochum's.

The Eugene Ormandy disc has arrived, and I'm very impressed with the speed of delivery from The Air Ambulance Service via Amazon. Unfortunately, I'm not awfully impressed with their eyesight, as they've sent the wrong disc. Same series, different content.
What I expected was Ormandy conducting Mahler's 2nd (1935) Schönberg's Verklärte Nacht (1934) Nikolai Myaskovsky's Symphony No 21 and Samuel Barber's Essay No 1 for Orchestra (1940) where the figures in parentheses are the years of the original recordings.
What I got was Rachmaninov's Piano Concertos No 1 (1939) and No 3 (1940) Richard Strauss's Don Quixote plus his Sinfonia Domestica, both from 1940. To be honest though, if I'd spotted the "wrong" disc at the time I'd probably have ordered it as well, purely for the Rachmaninov pieces, both of which feature Rachmaninov himself tickling the ivories.

I'd love to hear Rach playing his 3rd.

| | Eric Clapton - Me and Mr. Johnson | Peter Green - The Robert Johnson Songbook |
[EDIT] There's a nice little bonus on the Peter Green album; on the final track, Sweet Home Chicago, Paul Rodgers guests on vocals.

Nice, Slinger. If you don't already have it, then 'Hot Foot Powder' is the essential companion to the Greeny album there, not least for the guest performances from Hubert Sumlin, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, Honeyboy Edwards, Dr. John and others.

Speaking of companion albums, there's one for 'Me and Mr Johnson' too, which had a bonus disc with a great video on it, where EC plays in the same room that some of the Johnson recordings were made in. Sessions for Robert J [CD + DVD] [Digipak]
