Mike try these Sarah McLachlan – Fumbling Towards Ecstasy or the more traditional first album Touch And then there is the wonderful Mary Black start with either No Frontiers (a huge success) or By The Time It Gets Dark

Sarah McLachlan has a superb voice, characterful and controlled. My favourite album of hers is Afterglow.
Try also Silence from the Delerium album Karma, too.

I hear her name brought up everywhere often but I don't know of anything about her other than that this performance is stunning. Oh my God. I didn't realize she wrote this. I immediately assumed it was a cover or written for her.

Whatever you think of her, Billie is talented.

There are a small handful of songs/recordings I've heard in my life that stopped me dead in my tracks.
This is incredible.

Sandra McCracken: Best Laid Plans. £3.50: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143820801372Her other albums are spiritual, which probably won't appeal. I like this one in particular: In Feast Or Fallow:

Here are a few of my favourites - for the quality / emotion in their voices. There are so many.. no particular order
Maria Mena
Lissie (smokey tones)
Sheryl Crow (of course)
Tori Amos
Celeste (smokin')
Sigrid
Kristina Train
Regina Spektor (mad as a box of frogs, Russian trained classical pianist when young)
Joan As Police Woman
Sam Brown (very quiet on Spotify for some reason) out and out pop but great voice.
Miley Cyrus (not so much the music, but the character of her voice)
Relatively newcomers Ferris & Slyvester (Duet)
Couldn't forget Eva Cassidy (powerful vocal)
Bending the rules a little..🙂
Merry Clayton (Duet on Gimme Shelter)
Clare Torry (Great gig in the sky)
Edda Dell'Orso (The Ecstasy of Gold)

I think Ann Wilson is a very special vocalist.
Just love the way she goes from silky smooth to all out rock on this classic. Awesome.

Mathilde Santing, a Dutch singer. One of my favourite female vocalist back in the eigthies, went to see her live when she came to town. Spotify has a nice selection of her best songs.
