The successor to the D70 has been released. €699 from Audiophonics. Based on the AK4499 DAC chip. I am certainly tempted. Anyone else?

They didn't waste any time with this update!
I will be sticking with my D70 for sure. I got such a good deal at only 300 quid.

I much prefer my passive pre to the D70 volume control!

I found Wifi soundwise to be better than I expected when using the Limetree bridge but suspect this was mostly down to the resampling of the Limetree When using the D70 I get away without using a preamp but Jules in his system prefers using a preamp when using the D70 I have no idea why I can get away with it and Jules cannot

I suspect the input impedance of the AS amplifier nothing more.

Lastly, with these new DAC’s volume control is it time to eliminate the pre-amp (assuming the DAC is the only component you require)? I have done exactly that: sold my Pass preamp, bought a Burson buffer and am using the digital volume control in my LKS DAC.

I suspect the input impedance of the AS amplifier nothing more. We shall see! I am glad that I haven't spent money on a new preamp though.

The AS amps were designed for passive pre's as their own is a passive unit

Hey guys, I am interested in the Topping D90. However, I require a streaming solution from a NAS as my music listening is in the room next door. Is there some kind of ‘bridge’ component which would catch a WiFi signal from my NAS and feed it to the Topping D90? Thanks in advance for any input.

I think you will need your pi but someone else might have a solution. What the wifi is good for is a means to listen to YouTube or play music from your phone

Your router would be the connection between NAS and streamer. You will need a Pi or Asus close to the DAC, running on wi-fi.

Your router would be the connection between NAS and streamer. You will need a Pi or Asus close to the DAC, running on wi-fi. That’s right Martin. That’s how my Katana DAC operates now. Router connection between NAS and Katana with Pi capturing WiFi and feeding my pre-amp. With the Topping D90 naturally I don’t need the Katana DAC board, but still need the WiFi transport signal as per above. I do see the Topping offers Bluetooth 5.0 LDAC, but upon first glance that looks bleeding edge messy and fiddley. My fear is that my NAS may not cooperate in the chain of transmission. I don’ think I have the bandwidth nor patience to tackle all that. Anyway, I was looking back at the Allo offerings and I see the DigiOne Signature player. I think this may be a device which offer the capabilities I require. Once you add it all up however (Digi player with (2) LPS, Topping D90, and attendant headache handshakes required for success) it appears a pricey upgrade for another ~10 of SINAD. www.allo.com/sparky/digione-signature-player.htmlI don’t know, maybe I just wait to see how things develop and enjoy the Katana DAC in the interim.

The DigiOne Signature S/PDIF would be ideal for the Pi (because USB output is not so good). If you were to swap to the Asus, I'd say use the USB output.

I have used a RPI3 with the DigiOne. It is good but might not do the D90 justice. I use an RPI4 with USB to my DAC (and a low-cost reclocker and ifi silencer+). My NAS is in another room on the other side of the house. I use a wifi extender to get close to the RI4 and then run cat7 Ethernet cable to a low-cost router and a short cable to the RPI4.
