I read stories on Audio Note DAC 5 Special Edition. It's very very high price tag and what DAC it uses. Turns out that Audio Note has bought NOS AD 1865 dacs and uses them in most of its products. There must be a good reason for this. There is a list of dacs used in various audio products. The AD 1865 is used in exclusive cd players. Except one Nagamichi and the Cambridge Audio CD 200. So had a look at Ebay.co.uk and found one for GBP 28. Cambridge Audio CD 200 is a budget cd player. No digital output. Made of very flimsy sheet metal and thin plastic. But it does have the exclusive dac chip. Have been testing this for a few days. After cutting off the filter capacitors right before rca outputs the sound is very good. I am testing on Yamaha NS1000 / Genelec active version. Comparing to Khadas usb dac, B&O Beogram 5500 cd player and Otari pro rack cd player. Try this, if you can find one...
