Posted this elsewhere, thought I's share with you guys too.
And finally all in place, wired up and ready to make music. Almost gave up on vinyl, sold my Michell Gorbe/ SME V deck, but (luckily?) had a chance to hear Rega's new Planar 10 alongside the Planar 8. Both great sounding decks, but flippin Nora the 10 was miles better. If I'd went for the P8 I'd always be asking myself "What If?" Anyway, Cart andpower supply needs time to break in properly, but had a quick listen last night and its wonderful. Be enjoying vinyl in a big way again I'm happy to say!

Very nice Gary. So, vinyl's not dead (again!)
Glad you're going back to it.

That's not a proper record-player. No USB, no speakers, it doesn't come in a suitcase...

Gets to the heart of the tune and drags you in, just makes you want to play more music. Interestingly, it doesn't have a traditional turntable "sound", not like digital either?
Sounds pretty close to a good reel to reel in its sure footedness, but the detail and ambience retrieval are off the scale.
All that said, you forget about the hifi jargon as you just want to hear more performances.
Unforgiving of poor pressings, have a few doublers and you can really tell a good#un from the bad.

Rega make very good turntables, and the P10 is reputed to be quite excellent. Glad you’re happy

I'm actually really surprised Gary. I've 'retired' from vinyl now but don't think I ever considered a Rega deck. That's out of blind prejudice rather than listening experience! Glad it is hitting the spot for you.

So I was right about the Gorbe Mind you big price difference 😉 I like the look of the Rega, and have always fancied 'something else' but I think my modded 1210 would be a tricky sell these days. Happy days, still can't beat vinyl, not for the hiss, pop, crackle but the sheer joy of putting a record on, bloody weird how it feels playing a record but for sheer pleasure, very hard to beat, IF you 'get it'

I've recently got an ultrasonic rcm....to get a very old record fully clean can take 20 to 30 mins (mostly unassisted). The result is fantastic though. Beautiful Rega....

What are you using with it Gaz e.g phonostage, cartridge and arm Using a PS Audio Nuwave phono converter with it John, don't feel I'mmissing out on anything with it. Arm and cart came with the deck, the new RB3000 and the Apheta 3 cart. Sounds very good indeed. Just want to play more records, which is never a bad sign.
