I have had mixed experiences with reclockers over the last 2 years I tried one and it didn't work with the software I was using and without the software running it was a backwards step I am not going to name it but was happy to move it on. I heard the Mutec a couple of months ago and was very impressed with what it did I just bought a small master reclocker after a lot of research and equally impressive but very limited in terms of connections and sampling rates I am wondering if other people have experimented with this

Question: Is a USB reclocker the same thing as an asynchronous USB interface?

Question: Is a USB reclocker the same thing as an asynchronous USB interface? It transfers the potential source of jitter down the line to the receiving end, that will need something like a PLL (Phase Locked Loop) to keep sync with the incoming data. I think the honest answer is you'd have to try it and see, but not all DACs can accept async USB.

Thanks guys! Still not entirely clear on the distinction. But definitely keen to hear one of the Mutec untis in situ and compare with the Audiophilleo.

I think a visit to Martins sounds like it on the cards

By all means, guys. The Mutec is an impressive bit of kit.

I am sure that the Mutec and Audiophilleo are great pieces of kit but they are way out of my price range. I am experimenting with USB on a newly acquired RPI4 (under-clocked as I do with my RPI3B+). So far its sounds pretty good (not quite as good as my Allo Digione/RPI3B+) but I am interested in possible next steps, including re-clockers. Does anyone have experience with the Oelbach or iFi Purifier 3, iFi iGalvanic3.0?

I am not sure if you are using a external DAC or hat. If a DAC my money would go on the Oelbach master reclocker I used the IFi purifier and still use 2 IFi USB silencers in parrell coming out from the Tinkerboard to the Oelbach master reclocker It will get you closer to what the Mutec than the purifier

There are two parts to getting good sound from a USB streamer:
- Noise reduction (e.g. use an ifi iSilencer3.0 or AudioQuest Jitterbug) - Clock quality (e.g. use a reclocker)
I would certainly look at an iSilencer as a good improvement for noise reduction. Then look at what the Chinese are doing for inexpensive reclocking.

If you can time this right, I could bring along the jitter/eye package device and we can just see what is happening noise and jitter wise in real time with the various outputs form the sources, plus after the re-clocking latches have been fitted. Pretty simple and non time consuming as well.
Real world applications as well as real world listening, you never know they're maybe a correlation!

Your suggestion makes sense, thank you. I already have my eye on the iSilencer. There seems to be precious little info on the Oehlbach specs. Do you know if it will support USB3.0 data rates or is it limited to USB 2.0?

I had an ifi spdif purifier and it made no perceivable difference to the sound. The AC ipurifier actually introduced audible noise instead of removing.
Plenty do / don't rate these ifi products, so I would suggest buying with a good returns policy if buying new or just try to buy cheap second-hand like I did ...

The empirical pace car reclocker looks a nice product A shame the pound to dollar is not so good at present Not sure if Clive has the Uptone regen so he might be able to comment on it
