EDIT -- Comment withdrawn.
I thought I had sussed my problem with a poor classical catalogue with Amazon HD.
But now I'm not so sure! Using the Unlimited catalogue gets me a nice large catalogue of music but it seems to be in 'dirty' sound - lower rez, I guess.

Amazon mp3 sound is dire. I guess you just opened up their standard download catalogue.

Mike - Amazon HD sounds comparable to CD quality on first impressions. Listening to some of the "Ultra HD" tracks, they sound very good indeed!
I do like the interface. Once you've found an album you really like, it's a simple click of a button to add the whole thing to "My Music" therefore allowing you to return and enjoy in the future!
The "Lyrics" function is a novelty and sure beats listening to Irene, when she has her iPod Shuffle and headphones on (intermittent cries of some obscure chorus line can be quite disconcerting when you're not prepared for it!).
Give the 90-day free triall a go!

Thanks Steve I could go streaming (again) - unless I go to files instead Having as many as 3000 CDs already available and with so many albums not available on Spotty, let alone Amazon. I had Spotty Premium given to me for 6 months. Thought I would get into it but no. Didn't use it much if at all for the last 3 of those months as I naturally played existing music. Got well teed off playing with bloody computers and the like to get Spotty to work. Mike wants music: Turn on. Push button Play music End *Nothing* else in the SoP please Price plays a part £10 a month buys me 3, 4 or 5 CDs at the prices I pay and I have the thrill of the hunt A file server is a capital cost but may work better for me allowing me to have my favourite albums, CD, LP as well as reel to reel tapes copied Interface is a big reason I might change as I can click and play for £10-12 or more a month

Mike wants music: Turn on. Push button Play music End *Nothing* else in the SoP please That's pretty much what I do every evening. Even my Android tablet wakes up instantly and the charge is good for a week.

Even my Android tablet wakes up instantly and the charge is good for a week. Perhaps I have read too much into the Volumio and Spotty upgrades These things don't work so well for me either. If it can go wrong it will go wrong for me

Never turning anything off (only the regenerator and power amp) helps a great deal. Volumio just comes up ready.

Volumio reboots ring a bell for me

The trick is not to update unless you really need to. I'm a few versions behind in Volumio and have kept it stable for months now. Just the odd reboot of the Pi if my broadband glitches.

Had a quick try of Amazon Music HD , not bad , cancelled my trial , I've got plenty of music and Spotify suffices for recommendations , album club etc.
