Did anybody ever use Minidisc or even still use it? I used to use my portable minidisc recorder to record DJ sets me and my friends would make at the weekend parties I recently stumbled upon some of these old recordings which I’d named and dated(2002), so dig out the minidisc player to relive my misspent youth. I used to love the format and how small a portable recorder is. Anyway, all this nostalgia made me buy a Sony MZ E900 player that I always longed after and a couple of original albums. I also got some Our Art ACG earphones to try out.

I have several hundred MDs that I recorded off radio - live classical concerts mostly from when I lived in areas with decent radio reception! For some reason I very seldom listen to them although I do still have a player. There is some excellent music there, I really must listen more! Sound quality is generally very acceptable.

Yes, I was surprised at the quality of even an LP2 recording. I’d really like to try a Hi-MD as they are supposed to be even better.

I was an avid Minidisc user at one point and had a Sony hi-fi deck, a Sony Walkman portable and a Sony car changer. It was a good system, perhaps a little late to market to beat cassette, and had good sound quality from ATRAC, noticeably better than mp3.

Yes, it’s a shame the format didn’t last. I read that issues with copyright protection limiting user functionality put an end to it. I will keep a look out for a HI-MD recorder as these can record at cd quality. Unfortunately the HI-MD 1GB discs are expensive, but you can record at the same quality on a standard disc, albeit with less capacity.

Yes - we used to use minidisc recorders at Uni for speech recording. Their sound quality was way better than cassette. The down side was the huge cost of the discs.

I had a minidisc recorder that I used to record DJ mixes. I thought it was a great little format, and very handy for recording from vinyl - much less hassle than either the cassette recorder or the PC.

I have a Roland MC909 that I did I couple of recordings off too.
