How does the Topping compare to the SEG so far, John? or are you leaving it for a prolonged period to bed in?

It sounded really good at Tony It is certainly a keeper Have contacted SOtM as not playing Spotify with the Neo but will play via the laptop but of course not ideal Looks like I might have to change to another server

You must be impressed John, if you've put the SEG up for sale already.
Following this thread with interest, the D70 sounds like an interesting Dac.

Yes it a very good DAC I will also have to sell the SOtM Ultra Neo I do a review in a weeks time. What it did in Tony system with a first listen was a surprise

I'm looking forward to the chance of hearing the Topping D70 against my LKS this weekend.

I've no idea what to expect, John. With such a different chipset it'll be very interesting to hear what it does.

Yes remember price difference Martin I'm not expecting to be better than the LKS The comparison will be interesting between Martin's somewhat modded LKS and the standard Topping at about half the price. But I've come to realise over the years that price doesn't have that much correlation with subjective performance. I think a lot also depends on what you're listening out for, and what your personal musical/audio priorities are. It will be inetersting to see if a balance of pros and cons exists between them.

Indeed, Jerry, it will be partly dependent, as you say, on what John and I look for in reproduction. Although our musical preferences are quite different, we are not too dissimilar in our presentational preferences.

What are you using for streaming at the moment John?

At the moment I am not. I should get that sorted out Tuesday night and get the Nova N15 Tony waiting for a patch upgrade so I can connect to my BT Hub. Hence no review. The SOtM will not work with the Topping D70 I have spoken to everyone I can to try and resolve the integration issue. The joys of computer audio I might ask Martin to write a brief review and I will add my thoughts later on. I will have a number of changes when I finally hear it in my system, one of them quite radical.

I tied the D70 in a friends system with a standard mains cable. Still sounded very good. I really liked what it was doing in the mids pulls out a lot of mid detail and very natural sounding

The AKM chip-set is very natural and fluidic with plenty of even handed detail.
Always had a soft spot for the AKM dac's
