volspotconnect, the Spotify Connect plug-in for Volumio, has been further improved.
Ver 1.7.3 now shows full album info and artwork even when playing from the Spotify interface, a very nice touch. It also has the added benefit of playing the next album or playlist track while continuing to show progress info. A seamless experience.

It might be my imagination, but why do songs played from the Spotify interface via volspotconnect sound slightly better (more vibrant and dynamic) than ones played from Volumio using the Spotify plug-in?
All volume controls are set to 100%.
Please can someone else have a listen and verify or otherwise?

I tried John suggestion of a snap choke around the S/PDIF co-ax cable at the DAC end. Yep, another small improvement. Bass and impact from Spotify are now deeply impressive.

I am thinking of adding another IFI USB silencer and a new Ethernet cable to see if I can push it any more

The ifi iSilencer is surprisingly effective.

yes quite a nice upgrade. Makes you think it be better to have the USB inputs removed for ultimate playback

I wonder if they can be disabled in Linux? I'll have a dig around.

I stumbled on a snipped about the Rpi3 that might explain why an IFI- silencer in a USB port is having good results. www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=39714www.microchip.com/wwwproducts/en/LAN9514One thing that can be turned off easily is HDMI, saw it in a power saving discussion. Since its not in use, disabled mine, not totally sure if it was a great leap forward, have to play with it one day. Switch off /opt/vc/bin/tvservice -o Switch on /opt/vc/bin/tvservice -p

Nice one. I'll get PuTTY out and try that.

Completion to above. Should drop power use and RF noise.
Saw mention of disabling USB and that it would also disable LAN, need more research but seems like a bad idea so far. Makes sense since the USB and ethernet chipset are essentially one.

Thanks. I cannot disable Wi-Fi as my Pi uses it, but disabling BT can only help.

The best I ever managed to get out of the Pi is to use the I2s imferface. I’ve not read the whole thread but it seems to me I would pursue this route rather than SPDIF or USB

The HiFiBerry and Allo boards use the I2S interface to good effect.

Might need to upgrade my battery input sooner than I thought
Does the Pi use a lot of juice when not running ? Are there settings to minimise power when not in use ?
Interestingly I ran Spotty into the Amazon Firestick - without any set up. Clicked on devices in Spotty and there it was. SQ nowhere near the Pi not surprisingly

The Pi uses too much juice to keep it running all the time, and batteries don't like going completely flat.
