Trying to follow what this plug in does here.... Once installed and working properly, you fire up your Pi and bring up Volumio, select Spotify and you get the Spotify control panel to search for tracks etc? Or do you switch on your Pi and control things entirely from Spotify? If you mean the volspotconnect2 plug in then you just use Spotify on your preferred device such as smartphone/tablet/iPad etc and it shows up on the Spotify app as 'devices available' ( near bottom of the screen in Spotify ) you then select Spotify Connect ( Volumio ) and away you go. You're music then plays directly from Spotify via Volumio.

Mine fails at 'downloading required package' with any of two tablets and three browsers while installing the plug-in. I guess it must be the ISP. I need to find out what files are needed or possibly take the Pi to work. I had this issue once or twice so I just rebooted the Pi and tried again later and it worked fine, it might just be an issue at the download location end.

You use Spotify and connect to the Pi using the Connect button at bottom-right.

Still no luck.
Found a video and I'm already doing what it says I should be doing.

Deleted the download, got a fresh version, rebooted Volumio and it installed. Did nothing different though! Now I can't get Spotify to see the Pi.

Lost count of the times I rebooted Volumio! Got a fresh copy of Spotify and rebooted everything. Switched the plug-in on, yes.
Whatever I do, I can't make that Connect to a device icon light up. Thanks for the link, I'll take a look.

I braced myself a bit before attempting to add the plug in to the wireless connected Pi in the upstairs system, but it was done in about 5 minutes flat.
Good stuff.

Found my problem: a previous Volumio2 update had become stuck in a semi-updated state. I was lost in a loop of never-completing updates!
I downloaded the latest image and started again. Everything now works - Spotify, Spotify Connect and the new YouTube plug-in, which is really nice. Has anyone noticed the Grid view which lists the search results with full artwork rather than in tiny list form?

Glad that you solved the issue, at least with using Spotify Connect it's a much better experience than using the Spotify plug in as that's just so basic and slow. I prefer to use MoOde on my main Pi system and but wish I could get Spotify Connect on that one. I might be forced to install Volumio on that one just so I can use Spotify properly on the main HiFi setup. Currently just use a Chromecast Audio for Spotify with line out into my amp as I don't own a separate DAC.

Pi with Volumio2, Spotify, Spotify Connect & YouTubeStandard Volumio2 Spotify playback using its own interface... New Spotify Connect plug-in... And working using the new UWP Spotify app for Windows 10... New grid search results in Volumio2 showing YouTube results... And playing a YouTube audio extract... There is now even less reason not to have a Pi-based audio streamer. It's truly inexpensive and plays with the big boys using this build of Volumio.

I have two questions: 1.Is the Rpi3 better (in sq terms) than the Rpi2?
2. Has anyone tried a 12v 'car-type' battery with a 12V to 5V 'cigar lighter' USB for a RPi3? Thanks
Just a quick observation: My Rpi2 + Allo Boss + Standard RPi PS and running Volumio sounds better than my Rpi3 + Audiophonics DAC + Linear PS running Mo0de. (Different interconnects though).
Richard.

I have my RPi2 in a metal case, for shielding, with the wi-fi dongle + aerial sticking out. Since the RPi3 has built-in wi-fi, the metal case won't work so I've resisted any temptation to upgrade to a v3.

I came across this thread when sorting out my Ayre CD drive.
I reckoned if Martin was happy with the Pi serving Spotify it would do for me too. I had a Pi2 that had been serving Max2Play for my Squeezeboxes but had moved to an XU4 Odroid for the additional processing speed which I probably didn't need<G>
I then found that I'd bought a Hifiberry at the same time as the Pi but never tried it.
I've got enthused by the good remarks Spotify earns on here so signed up. The instructions here couldn't be better and I had it up and running in no time.
So pleased that I've just ordered a 3 with Hifiberry Digi Pro to have a go at the 3.3 and 5 volt supplies plus I have 44.1 and 48 tracks so it will be good to get this up and running.
Tried to buy the big batteries on Amazon but they don't send them to NI, and it appears noone else does either. Local availability is poor and expensive, couldn't see any as big at the Amazon ones either.
So I'm going to build a linear supply for the separated inputs. I have a couple of leftover Paul Hynes bits that might be usable.
Thanks for taking the time to write this thread Martin.
