I have a BTE passive pre-amp that feeds my Temple Audio Monoblocks and sounds very good but I find the 24-step attenuator too limiting. I looked at getting the BTE upgraded to a 48-step pot but the Khozomo will not physically fit in, so I am about to go for a passive pre-amp from Khozomo with one of their well regarded 48-step pots. I did not like the sliver but Arek will do a black version and will also add a fixed input (which I need for AV duties) for no extra charge. Has anyone tried one of these pre-amps?

It would be worth asking julesd68 about his passive preamp as he loves it.

The Khozmo passives have an excellent reputation, although I haven't heard one myself.

No experience with these, but they certainly look interesting. I use Townshend Allegri+ and Enigma passive pre-amps and will be checking out a Lab12 Pure soon for the German system.

An alternative to the Khozmo attenuator is the Acoustic Dimension 41 step unit. This is smaller than the Khozmo.

I decided to go for the Khozomo Passive Pre-Amp in black with a 10K pot and Vishay Z-foil and Takman shunt resistors, which arrived on Friday. I have not had a huge amount of time to listen to it, but first impressions are that it is utterly revealing, like a veil being lifted off. This of course also shows warts and all in recordings and probably my system too. Of course this is what a pre-amp should do but it might not be to everyone's taste. It is nicely finished with walnut (I think) on the sides and the action of both the input selector and volume control are very smooth. As you can see from the photo it is somewhat larger than my Caiman SEG.

Excellent, yes it looks very nicely made indeed.
I really appreciate how revealing and transparent my RVC is, it would have to be a very special active pre to replace it!

Two years after buying my Khozomo, the potentiometer now has loud, audible clicks (through the speakers) when I rotate it. I had heard this was a problem in the past but had been solved. Before I purchased it, I contacted the vendor and he assured me that it had been. I have e-mailed the vendor (in Poland) pointing this out but he has not replied. I am not sure where to go from here. Now I am having to use SW volume control on my Gustard, so the Khozomo simply is an expensive selector switch (between hifi and TV).

My passive isn't in use at present but makes a noise in one channel when volume changed - I presume it needs a clean but maybe it's something else ...

With nothing powered, rotate the volume control back and forth 10 to 20 times.

Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't! This time, it seems to have worked! Thank you for the tip. I should have thought of it myself.

I'm hoping that Mr Whippy's trick will work John, as I can't take my passive apart - it appears to have Allen bolts but none my keys fit it so I'm not sure what is required to get the little sods out!

It could be star (or Torx) bolts, rather then hex? The procedure for cleaning contacts has featured in this forum several times in the past

It's nothing new and something I discovered decades ago. If the track isn't actually worn, it will probably work, especially if the wiper has multi contacts. There's both metric and imperial type Allen bolts. It could be a Torx type as Martin says so as to restrict entry. You can get sets on eBay.
