Hi All, I need some help choosing either a cdp or a blue ray player that has an optical output for a transport for playing cd's, cd-r's and a hand full of sacd's my budget limits me to £300.00. Any help in greatly appreciated

See if you can find a used Sony SCD-XB770 SACD player. Be warned, though, that very few machines will output anything digitally when playing SACDs as it goes against the licencing agreement.
One machine that does output a 1-bit stream is my Pioneer BDP-LX55 Blu-ray player, if you can find one. It makes a pretty good all-round transport.

Look at the specs for current Pioneer Blu-ray players, then. They are one of the few companies that provides an S/PDIF output for SACDs.

I've just been looking and think I've found something suitable is Pioneer BDP-180-K

That looks fine but I can't find a user manual to confirm 1-bit output on the optical for SACDs. If you can find that spec, then it looks ideal.

Hi Martin I just read on the Amazon site that this unit plays WAV/FLAC/ALAC/DSD Hi-Res Audio files ,with the DSD function being 1 bit shouldn't read a sacd through the optical out ?.

That spec means it can play SACDs (which are encoded as 1-bit DSD). What you need to know, if you want to use it as a transport, is whether it'll output the 1-bit stream to the S/PDIF interface for your DAC. My Pioneer BDP-LX55 does, I'm just suggesting that you check for sure that this one does. I've only ever seen the spec in the back of the user manual, it's never specified in the website or brochure.

You could always buy and return if it doesn't work out for you

Well low and behold, my cdp was having trouble reading cd-r's so I took the cover off and cleaned the lens with aceatone ( i figured what have i got to lose )and it was really dirty for some reason , anyway it seam to have sorted out the read issue out so i'm well happy now as i don't have to save up for a new player

Nice fix. It's remarkable how much crud the lens accumulates if it's upward facing, as most players are.
