Yes, it looks ideal for the non-builders who want a plug-and-play solution.
ES9028Q2M DAC chip and HDMI output, too. It's based on the Tinkerboard S.

If they can get sufficient numbers to market and promote it properly it could do decent business at that price-point. It looks to have everything you could possibly want to connect it to anything you could possibly want. After charging for the Volumio app on a couple of platforms (£0.89 on the Fire and £1.99 on iPad) it looks like Michelangelo is finally looking to, at least partially, monetize Volumio, and who can blame him?

It's a good move and can only help to fund further development. Pro-Ject have obviously bought an OEM licence which won't hurt, either.

I perked up at the sight of the HDMI connector at the back, but sadly it's for video.

Yes he did, but the focus seems to me to be on performance. I'm not convinced it's a better solution than a Pi with an Allo DigiOne or DAC for SQ.

I was thinking along the lines of utilising the "extra power" to comfortably run a decent sized dumb display with Volumio, showing (for instance) album art, title, artist, and track number/name via that HDMI port. If the Tinker Board ever gets compatibility with the Allo DigiOne or the HiFiBerry Digi+ Pro it might make an interesting project.

There's an LVDS module somewhere for the Pi, isn't there? You should be able to use a laptop screen display with it.

€400 for the Primio 😮
That's one VERY expensive box 😉

Thanks, Martin. So... is this thread drift, or is putting it in this thread a subtle clue as to what my birthday pressie from TAS is? My money's on the pressie 😂 But not literally 😉😋

I had to throw the cake away, along with the doormat and the tortoise, after the postman tried to get it through the letterbox.

Did anyone here end up buying the Volumio Primo player? Seems like a nice solution for the non-builder.

Overpriced in my opinion and Hans Beekhuyzen ( check his YouTube channel ) who reviews lots of kit like this rates it ok but didn't beat Pi/Digione which is a LOT cheaper
If you want a one box solution ( although £599 ) check out the Project Stream Box S2 Ultra designed by John Westlake using Volumio, Hans rated it very close to the SoTm Neo Ultra that is twice the price 😉

For myself, I agree with you and the Allo DigiOne is outstanding.
