First one I remember was a Grado grey thing. Bright bold sound. After that I had a Shure 75, Shure 95, Various Ortofons.. VMS20, VMS30, then a long break from vinyl.. Started up again with a Sumiko Blue Point Special Evo III (long name for nothing very special). Then a AT PTG33 or was it 33PTG?, then SPU Silver Meister and finally SPU Royal N.

Aside from the 'needle' on my Fidelity record player, and some Sony job on a Sony DD turntable from the mid 70s my first 'proper' cartridge was a Corus Blue fitted to a B250 on a Rega Planar 3. When that wore out I switched to a Rega Elys (I might of had a Corus Black in between but I really cannot remember). After a gap of about 6 years I sold the RP3 and bought a heavily modified LP12 fitted with Funk FX-R II tonearm fitted with a Dynavector DV XXII Mk 2. When that wore out I switched to a Dynavector Dv DRT XV-1s after auditioning a Linn Kandid and another that I can't recall at the moment. I'm still using it.

I've not heard that model but I know several Dynavectors (including the Karat Ruby) and have owned three myself. I believe the XV-1s is supposed to be the dog's danglies.

In 1989, I bought a used Zeta tonearm and when I collected it the seller threw in an old cartridge too. It was an original Koetsu Black and I have used it and other Blacks exclusively ever since.

It is indeed a stunning performer. There is one model above it in their range, the DV DRT XV-1t, I've not heard it, and when I asked Phil from Phonography (as was) if he had, he said he refused to audition it as he knew he wouldn't be able to resist one!

Linn k18. What a pile of (insert expletive here) That came off in double quick time... Horrible thing. Changed it for an ortofon 540 which was nice. Wore out that one Then one of the nicest carts ive had by far, a nos coral 777ex. Loved it and wore it out, got an sae1000lt too which was almost as nice. Wore that one out too.
A load of dl103 derivatives, don't like them but wanted to like them so I tried loads. Still don't like them.
A lovely dynavector 10x5, and a wonderful dynavector dv20. Loved the 20 which was probably abit better than the coral but i broke it....
An ortofon sl15 which is comfortably the nicest ortofon I ever had and an original mc10. Broke that and went back to mm.
Now have an at150sa on my deck and and at440mlb on the wife's automatic deck, but I've just built a deck for a friend who supplied a high output dv20xx2 to go on it..... An absolute peach which has reignited the dynavector affair. A subtly brilliant cart, i want one.....

To continue my story, I had an Ortofon MC-10 Super followed by an MC-20 Super, both nice cartridges. I think I did them a disservice by running them in my Helius Aureus arm, the worst piece of shite I've ever owned. It's a shame as the MC-20 especially had some very nice attributes.

Very simple answer from me (that shocked you didn't it!)
My very first cartridge for my very first deck was a Benz LPS for the Oracle Delphi MK VI, have only ever owned three I think?
A Koetsu Jade (not too shabby), and a VDH the Frog, a bit grim imho, the Benz is still my favorite as it is supremely musical.

After my dabbling with Ortofons, I switched to Audio Technica. I bought an AT OC7 and followed it up with an OC9. A very good, detailed, cartridge which is a little brightly lit and doesn't have a particularly potent bottom end. However, it does a lot right and has that lovely MC midrange quality that distinguishes them from MMs.

I never finished this. My final cartridge was a Shelter 5000, a tremendously capable performer with some knockout dynamics and potency in the bass. It loved the Dynavector arm and gave me real pleasure in my final years of record playback.

Mine was an Ortofon FF15E, tracking in an SME 3009 S2 Imp, on a Thorens TD160. It was later upgraded to a VMS20E. When the VMS20 stylus wore out, I fitted a VMS30 fine line replacement. Lovely thing it was in the SME arm. Then I bought into the Flat Earth BS. That didn’t end well.

Shure M75ED2 was my first. On a Pioneer PL12D turntable. Sounded good enough at the time. My mates tended to go for the Ortofon VMS20Eii. Everyone had their hifi back then. Half a century ago.

Well mine was an original Dynavector 10x fitted to a TD160 Mk2 Not a bad place to start. And talk about reliving the past, i'm on fettling a TD160 with a 3009 S2 Improved arm and a Dynavector 10x5, i've always loved this deck and arm combo, the cartridge is the one thing that doesn't float my boat and tbh it never did all the way back to the 10x, but i bought this cart at a very low price from a friend who hardly used it so for the moment it what's going on.
