There does appear to be some cracking stuff coming out of China these days. Same with photographic gear. Yep nearly all of my lighting gear is Chinese ...

Audiolab Mdac here - my first system was a what hifi 5 star selection (ugh). Tbh it was a lot of fun and far more refined from the generic trash I was used to.
I then bought a Longdog audio vdt1 dac in 2012 and have lived happily ever after. I’ve got many 5687 tubes to have some filling fun with. Mods include internal USB changed to mad scientist audio black magic USB, RDC1.2 cones with all footers, acoustic revive qr (mini quartz stone stick on circles) and Herbies audio lab tube rings on all three tubes. Oh and and RDC gc (grounding conditioner) underneath the mains transformer.

My first DAC was the one in Meridian's 'integrated' CD transport / DAC, the 206b (well they did bolt the two boxes together). Later I bought a used 200/203 combination and then added a 263 (I still have them and both are very capable for CD) - you can see the 200 / 263 in the image below (although streaming / server-based music is the main source in Germany). I have an updated Lector Digicode 2.24 on the CD transport in the UK and both the NDX in Germany and the NDX2 in the UK output through Teddy Pardo DACs at present (again, you can see the TP DAC in the image below - second one up in the central stack of 4 units).

My first was a Beresford TC-7510 Mk 6/3 in 2008. It blew the socks-off my Linn Genki CD player's internal DAC and not long after led me to getting a Squeezebox 3 player and completely digitising my music (and also getting rid of all my Linn kit).

the NDX2 in the UK output through Teddy Pardo DACs at present How do you find the TP DAC - is it a keeper?

Yes, I am very impressed by it. It delivers a similar ,natural sound to the Lector DAC. I will have a look at a Lab12 DAC as well though although I will still probably keep the TP for 192 KHz files. A friend has my USB TP DAC (the same, but without S/PDIF inputs) and is comparing it with various RP add-ons. Still early days on that though.

Interesting - do let us know when you check out the Lab 12, would like to hear that too. It's tricky finding a natural sounding DAC that doesn't lose out in detail and resolution.

The Lector DACs fit that description well, but are not the most compact option! Where abouts in the UK are you?

I'm in Highgate, North London.
If I got a full size DAC my tuner would have to go!

I'm near Basingstoke. I'll let you know when the DACs are around and you are more than welcome to pop over for a listen.

I'm also near Basingstoke. Let me know if you can stand another body for a listen.

Basingstoke New Town - as I still think of it. Changing from a small town, village maybe into big place in the 60s. Worked there for a while

Indeed - Old Basing is the original village.

Old Basing (originally just Basing) is actually a separate place and Basingstoke grew as new town from the older market town of the same name (a few miles west of Old Basing). The outer reaches of Basingstoke now virtually merge with Basing although there is still a gap, mainly due to the railway line.

I maybe should have said 'an' original village. Dummer, Oakley, Sherborne St John, Cliddesden and many other small villages surround Basingstoke and have become almost attached. The M3 also acts as a divide.

Actually, as new towns go, Basingstoke is pretty good. The creation of a good quality ring road really helped and they have spent a lot on the town centre and the malls.

My first Dac was a Matrix Quattro. Nice little Dac, I still have it and may use it in a second system someday.
