They're so cheap that you needn't scatter. Put one on every cable! This. I’ve got 20 on order, more than I’ll need, but better to have too many. I’ll report back when done.

Yep, I had 5, they worked noticeably well so I have another 15 on order. Of late, I have been using linear PSUs with my Chinese DACs of choice - I wonder how much of the improvements heard was due to a better PSU and how much due to the lower noise?

I would think it's mainly down to lower noise with no switching in the RFI band. Which in turn would lessen the effects of RFI on adjacent equipment. So you hear an improvement in the DAC SQ, and in the amplifier

I went around the house yesterday adding snap chokes to every single SMPS/wallwart I could find. There are far more than I had realised. I've used all my chokes up so have ordered another 20.

Those SMPS seem to breed, don't they? I too must order some more chokes from RS - 24 is the magic number, because that's where the price drops to under a pound per choke, and delivery is FOC.

Is that for immense undersea cables?

It occurs to me, all this talk of switched mode power supplies causing radiated and cable-borne noise. Remember that linear power supplies also create noise, albeit usually much less. They still have full wave rectifiers switching on and off 100 times per second causing sometimes quite poorly suppressed noise.
Choke them all, every last one of them!

What's the cheapest source folks have found for 13mm ferrite chokes? Can get them on eBay for £9.75 for 10, delivered. Is there a cheaper UK source? -- hmm, available from China for £3.39 for 10. Just found these for £7.78 for 10 with quick delivery from Finland. Have ordered 10.

I buy the Chinese ones from eBay and am prepared to wait. Things very often only take around 2 weeks to arrive these days.

Under promise and over deliver Yes I was wondering if that was the case; a strategy to stop complaints around delivery dates.

Yes indeed, they are nearly always early. I did have one item from wish.com that got lost and they promptly sent a replacement.

Well Mike , I took your tip Mike and ordered the chokes which you linked to . I received them the other day and fitted them to every switched mode PSU I could find . I came in from work last night and thought to myself how good my system was sounding . I have made a few cable changes in the last few weeks , however , I firmly believe that these chokes are making a substantial contribution to what I'm hearing . Thanks for the heads up on these Mike , a very cheap way to make very audible improvements to your system . I've just ordered some more
If anyone is planning to fit these then go you your local Screwfix and buy some cable ties to fix them securely to the cables because they don't always fit every size of cable . In that case I prefer to fit a smaller one and tighten a cable tie around it .

...or use a larger one and wind the cable around it to make one turn, which increases the inductance.

Bonkers isn't it ? I ordered various sizes from Ebay for pennies and spread them around. Need to reorganise to accommodate the double wind of cable now and get around to it eventually
