Interesting comments in that thread about the RPi4 not being better for sound quality due to increase in ‘noise’. Seems they have also developed a usb bridge board to ‘fix’ the native RPi usb/Ethernet issue.

I underclock/undervolt my Pi 3 to reduce noise and it certainly helps SQ. I dare say the Pi 4 will underclock, too.
I do think the 'proper' ethernet interface in the Pi 4 could be a step up in SQ, too.

Anything is possible, the real benefit I feel will be in I/0 speeds and latency. I under clocked mine as well when I was running max2play, not sure it made any difference tbh

Well, that was a fairly short ‘half-life’. Appears the Katana is being discontinued for the new Allo Revolution DAC. www.diyaudio.com/forums/vendor-s-bazaar/337859-shanti-dual-lps-5v-3a-5v-1-5a-98.html#post5982843Testing is being done with no pricing yet. Pretty sure once the Revolution DAC testing is complete it will be shipped to Audio Science Review for its evaluation. Should be interesting as the space these types of DAC’s occupy is becoming pretty competitive. Price/SINAD will be key.

I would also throw into the equation the Asus Tinker Board S as being a viable, less noisy, alternative to the Pi 4. Compatibility with HAT boards is variable but its USB output is of very good quality. It's used in the Volumio Primo.
