Is anyone else at TAS like me, with a tendency to become obsessed with a new discovery and then go on to acquire the complete output of the artist/band/composer concerned? This has happened quite a lot with me.
Some acts, I am still working on and some others, I got to a point with their new releases that I just wasn't enjoying them anymore, so I gave up - Rush and Pink Floyd, for example.
For me, the big ones have been:
The Beatles Dylan Neil Young Zappa/Mothers Led Zeppelin Black Sabbath Patti Smith Free / Bad Company
What about you? (artists with 5 albums or less don't count)

Pink Floyd - 75 Beatles - 44 Hawkwind - 41 Springsteen - 31 Al Stewart - 29 Tangerine Dream - 45 Stones - 31
Those include bootlegs, mono/stereo releases, and remasters. Multi-disc sets are counted as one album.

Erm, I can't even nearly compete with those numbers, Paul!
I do have pretty much the complete output of Pink Floyd and Carly Simon.
There's a juxtaposition for you!

Loreena McKennitt - I've pretty much all of her stuff including a concert DVD. Her most recent album or 2, though, have been a bit same-y imo and tbh a bit less inspired, and I've not bothered getting the discs.
Back in my LP days (pre CD) I had 47 (I think) recordings of Bruckner's 8th symphony. That was a bit obsessive.

I like getting as much as possible for some artists, but wouldn’t probably go as far as to go for singles.
With Def Leppard, I have all of their albums, their first EP and their box sets.
I do have the entire studio album back catalogues for others, such as:
Mark Knopfler Dire Straits Eric Clapton The Script Ed Sheeran

After discovering artists I like I have gone on to grab everything they did. That can work out fine but I have come unstuck Avoided a few by Neil Young. Riveted by the first 3 Zep albums, went off them gradually. Pink Floyd's height was Atom Heart Mother. Dark side of the moon a big step down for me and lost interest after then Pat Metheny fabulous to unlistenable sometmes on the same album
Personnel changes can have a big effect, like AC/DC. Bon Scott great, Brian Johnson not for me. Unlikely to go much on Axl Rose.
Fairport Convention have changed personnel, albums varying from good to outstanding. King Crimson massive changes and different groups and sounds I mostly like. Soft Machine. Very different sounds as the members changed. Man perhaps have the greatest member churn. ike most but a few not so good I have avoided.

Personnel changes can have a big effect It certainly can - I have all the Ozzie era Black Sabbaths early and later. As for Dio and Gillan, they were just not right for the band.

I tend to hear someone new and rather than buying all their albums I browse through a lot of their work and make up playlists of the bits I like. That's usually after a browse here to see what everyone's listening to.

Remembered my caution led me to being careful about Whitesnake after initial enthusiasm generated by Coverdale Page album
I have around 5 of their albums and rate only one highly. Sampled others and not so impressed.
"Zeppelin lite" I think Robert Plant said

No contribution to this thread from Jules I note. Come on, Jules; how about if we stretched the criteria to include "How many versions of The Four Seasons do you own?"

Well, not as many as you might think Paul! I'm discriminating don't you know ... To be frank sir, at the moment, I am obsessed with collecting orchestral and chamber works by mssrs JS Bach and A.Vivaldi. But it's a slow process finding the right recordings in the condition I want. I'm also trying to complete my Toto collection which is going slower than expected ...

The first four Zeppelin albums are superb.
I don't remember ever recommending a Whitesnake album?

I don't remember ever recommending a Whitesnake album? It was quite probably me. But that's the only one I would!
