Hi all, Thanks to the hospitality of an esteemed AoS mod, there will be a phonostage bakeoff taking place in Stoke. Currently confirmed as attending are Alan (Firebottle) with his Vivant phonostage, myself with my DIY "Wizard" phonostage and Macca (Martin, The Host) We are hoping to get a Paradise phonostage owner to volunteer to attend and we are also actively looking for a NVA Phono2 (MC input) to participate. As you can see, our aspiration is to get some of the top phonostages together in one room. If anyone has a Vida phonostage, or something of similar ilk (MF, LDA, VALAB LCR, Tron, Ray Samuels, Croft RS) And would like to attend, please get in touch. There will be a lot of photos taken so give them a clean too 😉 A date is TBC but should be before June System will consist of a cocktail of: Technics SP10 MK2, Tenuto Platter matt, PMAT 1010 tonearm, Kontrapunkt b cartridge into either NVA pre or Slagle AVC into either NVA Monos, Krell power amp or Firebottle Monos, into JM Labs speakers or Tannoys. Cables are NVA or SPOTFIRE or ...... Whatever you may wish to bring that sounds best. This part will be confirmed on the day. Can the facts surrounding this soirée be registered? It was Mr NVA that proposed it when Mr Firebottle joined his forum. It was Mr NVA that proposed that Mr Firebottle could contact the esteemed Mod at AOS as he was seen to be unbiased towards NVA product. This, Mr Firebottle did, and indeed Macca, esteemed Mod, was willing to carry out the duty - but only if Mr NVA didn't attend. And so Mr NVA responded as he did. Now, surely, surely, the decent, fair-minded, reasonable action would be to look for an alternative venue acceptable for traveling for both parties. This is what Mr NVA is looking for, but is apparently being disregarded. So, if anyone here would like to help with a venue, they might like to contact Mr Firebottle here or Mr NVA at his forum.

The decision has been made unanimously to hold this bakeoff in RD's absence. I hold no ill wishes for Mr Dunn, NVA or the HFS forum. MCRU is holding a bakeoff in May, who knows what can happen by then.

And you don't see anything wrong in that?
Obviously not.

Are you doing a phono-stage bakeoff David, or is it more general than that? Phono stage. Nick wants to hear the paradise so I am hoping Simon can bring his.

And you don't see anything wrong in that? Obviously not. Look, it is what it is. YOU try finding people across multiple forums with the best gear who are willing to share space with him. You seem to think I haven't tried to sort this? I got about 4 hours sleep last night (before a 9 hour shift at work starting at 5am) between emails, forum messages and phone calls trying to sort something out.

I presented the facts so others could make up their own mind. Not sure why you had to be involved. It was Mr Firebottle that was asked.
As for forum personas... You could take a closer look to home.
I'll leave you to have the last word. You're beginning to remind me of that certain "other" forum persona.

The facts are a comparison between Firebottle and NVA phono stages was often attempted but for whatever reason never done.
It finally happened at my place.
The Firebottle was clearly out-classed by the NVA and both were out classed by other offerings (well 1 namely Nicks reference phono).
Mr Firebottle has gone away and re-designed his offerings from what I have read and now wants another comparison to be done.
Both parties agreed to a re-match so to speak and then stalled on where to hold it. It was decided on a venue but then for some reason whoever it was decided RD was not allowed (why?)
So now another stand off where all parties become flustered and the usual toys out of the prams scenario.
This is about products, not a dick measuring contest.
My place is open and all are invited to re-battle, no one is banned as life is too short for all the crap that goes on inter forum, man up guys and grow some balls.
I am having another phono stage bake off anyway as there are 2 new contenders to throw into the pot so more the merrier.
Martin will open a new thread I hope and contributions and intentions to attend are welcome.

It's up to each bake-off organiser to invite or otherwise anyone they please.
David: please start the new bake-off thread with a suitable title so that I'm not having to guess.

Where's the logic of this thread if you you have to be an AOS member to gain entry? Verification and log-in details required on the day. Is it not just a bakeoff comparing a few phono stages - or am I missing something? Or has it turned into a Fort Knox event? "Just checking for NVA phono preamps, Sir":

It seems to have morphed into something different from when it was first announced. Are any TAS members, who are also AoS members, going?

MCRU & mrwhippy
Regardless of whether it's pathetic or not, the truth is that whilst NVA equipment is more than welcome, the owner is not.
If the owner was to moderate his online behaviour in such a way that didn't display sub-human mentality and attitude, then I'm sure he would be welcome to attend any bakeoff.
I have had multiple messages from people stating their withdrawal from any event if he is involved. It's not because anyone is running scared of NVA gear, it's because of the owner. Lots of people rate his gear, as do I but he is the limiting factor of his brand. Maybe when he hands over the reigns to "Boy Friday" things will change. I hope they do because I like the gear.
When you host your bakeoffs, you are entitled to invite whomever you choose. I have benefitted from your Bake off, Dave and you are welcome at mine.
The event has evolved into an AoS event due to the confirmed participation of the attendees. The date didn't fit those invited from here so it's now an AoS event.
