Have to say Matt nice job on the installation, a lot of time and care has gone into that project. Unfortunately by ability with wood working is close to zero, my father was the chap for those jobs, my alleged talents lie in other directions. Top stuff Matt. Thanks! I have to admit though that half a tub of filler and lots of sanding, filling, sanding, filling had to be done before I was happy enough to start painting.

Hi Matt
Many moons ago we had a quality vehicle coach works in our motor group, our paint-shop foreman Trevor, now that chap had unbelievable patience, the amount of painting, flatting back, re-coating, baking, cleaning, flatting back and sheer attention to detail was a joy to behold. All good things come to those who wait. I doff my hat Matt.

We only let Trevor loose on the good stuff, he was a perfectionist, we had this XK140 in for a full restoration, and he refused to let the customer see the work unless the silk scarf just flowed over the bonnet when gentled released from the top, it was like a black mirror. Though as I know you are aware, the amount of hours that go into a project like that (lead filling the seams, hand rolling panels etc) is just something else. Made my 200 hours engine builds seem like child play

Engine building is something I’ve never tried. I had a Subaru Impreza once, but new brake callipers and power steering pump was about as complex as I got.

Matt my previous profession before owning the car business was areopsace engineer, do we had a fully kitted out machine shop, heat treatment process and Cyro tanks jig borers and edm, 4 axis machining centres and delepena honing systems.
So we did all of the machining as well as build the jigs and tools for the Alfa and Ferrari engines, do agree craftsmanship dies seem to have taken a back seat

My dream now is to build speakers.

A small update to my progress. I had a set back with the right side unit due to the curved ply not being quite stuck enough at its very edge. I'd been sanding it smooth only for it to flex slightly and need sanding flat again which meant I'd sanded through the light coloured top ply layer and could see a dark line of the inner ply layer through the paint. I had to cut a line out of the unit and fill it and sand it again. Untitled by MattSPL, on Flickr I made a start on the covers where the subs go too. by MattSPL, on Flickr Oh and the brass door knobs too. I've 2 more per side to fit the sub panel to match the doors. Thanks Chris, I’m trying to decide if I should do a fabric grille or metal and paint the same as units.

Very nice bit of construction, Matt. I'll bet those drivers can move some air.

Another small update. The right unit is ready for a final coat of paint and a couple of adjustments to the fixings on the door over the sub, then I need to order the grille's. The left unit's false door needs a final filling and sanding before painting. Untitled by MattSPL, on Flickr
