Here's the (latest) dilemma on which I need (to bore your collective arses off asking for even more bloody) advice. I want a CD player to accompany the new Primare amp. Currently, I have available... NAD C516BEE, Marantz CD6003, and a new Teac CD-P560. All are adequate machines and I'm currently running the NAD through a Teac UD-H01 DAC (which I think is excellent) on my NVA setup, and the Teac CD player is working via an SMSL Sanskrit 6 on the Primare. I also have a TC-7530DC Bushmaster available. Now, here's the actual dilemma. I'd appreciate some opinions on whether I'd be better off looking for a decent used CD player for around £200.00 and trying it on its own, with the SMSL and with the Bushmaster to see which I prefer, or...buying a new SEG for the same £200 and pairing it up with (most probably) the Marantz? N.B. Yes, I'd love to spend more than £200.00. No, I'm not going to spend more than £200.00 unless a VERY special CD player comes up on eBay...although if one does come up you can pretty much guarantee it will be after my £200.00 is spent, so that's not really relevant.

The Caiman SEG with its reclocking is very good indeed and a considerable jump up in sound quality from the Bushmaster. Considering that you have a choice of good potential transports, I would say that this is the route to take.
Your next purchase could then be a Pi...

Seems like I may have to consider the SEG.
My Bushmaster has given good service, more so after the upgrade, but I'd like an improvement.
Does Stan give us forum members a discount like he does on AOS ?

I've been in touch with Stan, he sent me a Paypal invoice for the SEG and I've transferred the money.
Very much looking forward to receiving it.

Very much looking forward to receiving it. Nice one. Be sure and let us know what you think of it. I'm waiting for new speaker cable to arrive before I make the next change so it'll be a week or two at least before I move forward.

Very much looking forward to receiving it. You’ll have to let us know your thoughts. I have found the SEG a big upgrade on the Caiman II, which in turn was an upgrade on the Bushmaster.

Oh well, no SEG for me. I've just seen, and bought, a Primare CD21 for £305.00 to match the amp. The only downside (other than going 50% over budget) is that it's black and the amp is silver. I can live with that though. I've also ended up going with the Van Damme 4mm UP-LCOFC Hi-Fi speaker cable. In the end, it was the fact that I could get the individual lengths I required, and get them pre-terminated with bananas at one end and spades at t'other for just under £55.00 that won me over. I'd love to have gone with NVA LS3 but I simply couldn't afford it right now.

To get an idea of how good the SEG is, play a CD that you know like the back of your hands through just your CD player. Then play that same CD through the SEG.

The SEG just responds to better and better input quality. Run it from a battery and it becomes an absolute giant killer.

According to othe forums the super capped Seg is a big step up over the standard seg with a 15v lps for a moderate cost I'm thinking of getting one and a Capella ,if the seg can go a fraction louder with gain adjustment I may use get the seg,the caiman 2 I use is ok but if I can get a little more volume I would be very happy if it drives the hd600/hd650 s

Probs a standard one which is still good but you have to ask Stan to mod it,my problem is if I buy the standard seg ,no doubt I will want the supper capped one so it will save time ,with sending it back.if you have a 15v better quality lps is supposed to be amazing.i surges to you ask Stan just in case he has not sent it yet

My SEG has already been posted, so I'll see how I get on with it and let everything burn in.
Stan says the "supercapped" modded unit really needs a 15v linear power supply, and that gives me an excuse for the next DIY project.

Ah, then I'll stick with the standard SEG as I use a 12V battery with it.

My first effort at a 15v power supply is using a 120va 18v toroidal transformer and a cheap as chips Chinese Lt1083 adjustable regulator module, about £4 off Ebay - but around 4 weeks delivery.
Ideally I'd like to use a different Lt1083 module, but I can't see the one I want on Ebay.
I've got some blue acrylic sheet to make a case, but not sure of a design yet. I've got some proper liquid and a syringe to "weld" the acrylic bits together , never tried it before so should be good fun.
The SEG should be here Monday, but I wont be able to get it up and running till Tuesday afternoon.

Confidentially speaking, I wouldn't spend too much time and money at this stage into building or buying an expensive power supply for any of my DACs. More info and hopefully a life demo at the ASBO for a revolutionary next generation PSU.
