Apart from the Chromebook I've got four or five Android tablets, and an Android phone, I've got a couple of NOOK HD eReaders, as well as a Kindle, an iPadi and an iPad mini, plus my Windows PC and my Windows laptop of course.

And I cast myself as an acquisitive muppet ! (two laptops, one being used in a dock as a desktop, one Ipad I was gifted that I don't use)

I must confess that sitting beside me are two 5-series Mac Pros (the large aluminium enclosure types) and a MacBook Pro (I think I have 7, but only use 4: I'm not greedy you understand!) and a short way away is an iPad mini (used to control the streamer and Fidata server and the Relio lighting units) and a current generation Mac Mini (supporting the camera microscopes and the PhaseOne backs on the copy stand - the old one is in a drawer at the moment!). However, one of the Mac Pros (a 2008) will be retired as soon as I get around to moving the software onto the more recent (2012) one: I cannot update beyond El Capitan on the 2008 machine and so cannot exploit the latest releases from Adobe (mind it still renders video pretty well and supports everything else I need at the moment, and I could have changed the processor, but was too lazy).
In the UK I use a series 6 Mac Pro and use an elderly 17" MacBook Pro for watching 'TV' etc and an iPad for controlling the streamer and Fidata server there. I also have an iPad Pro although a friend has borrowed that while I'm away as he needed one for his new job and it was sitting idle.
So, all-in-all (and certainly compared with Paul) a relatively modest number of computing devices, but cameras are a different matter!

The new Chromebook is definitely a keeper. Three days in and it's only used 50% of its initial charge.

Nice. I do respect good battery life. Phones seem to have gone the wrong way since the days of the power sipping Nokias.

I decided to completely shut the Chromebook down and time how long it took to boot up from hitting the power button. It took 19 seconds. Mind you, it did have to apply a "Critical Update," while it was booting. They are nippy. After it had booted I could see it was also updating the Google Play compatibility software in the background. I can't say that the Chromebook is an essential, although I have learned to lean on it/them fairly heavily. For the price, convenience, choice of footprint, and speed, I can't go as far as saying I don't understand why everyone hasn't got one either, but I would go as far as heartily recommending one. For under £180 (used) I've got a full HD 1920 x 1080 15.6" LCD screen, 4 GB of DDR4 SDRAM, 64GB of eMMC memory plus another 64GB on a microSD card, 802.11ac & Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity, 2 x USB 3.1 A and 2 x USB 3.1 C ports, and Display Port over USB C should I want to connect an external monitor. 99% of the software one uses (until you get intoGoogle Play downloads) is actually web-based, which makes huge amounts of storage unnecessary. It all runs in the familiar Chrome browser. It's "horses for courses" obviously. Running complex and power-hungry graphics software etc. is out of the question, but as a machine for web-surfing etc. I'd have one of these in preference to a Windoze laptop or an Android tablet every time. With a 15.6" HD display it's fine for watching videos too. It handles streamed video and YouTube with no problems whatsoever. I'm quite glad, in an odd sort of way, that I was forced to upgrade to a newer model, and if I bought again I'd certainly look at Acer first after having two of their Chromebooks now.

You would think so but had this issue with Android tablets and phones I also tried a Lenovo chromebook a few months ago and had to send it back as would not do LDAC There supposed to be fix for it but the fix does not work either so best to test first

According to what I've read Chromebooks will definitely not have LDAC implemented, they use SBC, and there is currently no way to add other codecs to the Chrome OS. On Android, if you have Android 8.0 or up, you will have access to the LDAC codec.

cheers {aul saves me a trip to Currys the Android above 8 does not always ring true I went through a few tablets with 9 that would not output LDAC I've a vague idea it might be buried in Android's settings and need to be manually turned on. I'm not 100% on that though.

Android can have some peculiar build oddities. For instance, I was asking Ruth to turn her loud notification alert down. She couldn't. We looked at her Motorola volume controls and compared it with my LG. Hers simply does not have a separate notification volume.

Danger Danger Warning Stand Back take cover
Mike wonders about a Chromebook for the boss who is driving me and herself nuts with the Ipad losing the interweb Assume it is much like an Ipad in use but will it connect with/to Apple stuff and keep the wifi signal better than Apple stuff ?

Sort the Wi-fi issues out first ?
You could try a USB dongle for Wi-fi, that's what I do on Jeans Lenovo laptop. The Wi-fi stopped working after she dropped the laptop on the floor.
