Hi All, I just bought a 9 years old Yamaha S1700 dvd player for £20.00 because it has SACD I have just listened to some Floyd on SACD and can't get over how much better it sounds over my Marantz cdp going through a Beresford SEG dac anyone else had a nice surprise like that ?

Yes the Denon DVD Player I used to have also played SACD and DVD Audio and those formats are really quite impressive, shame they didn’t really take off to well.

I get great results from a niceLy cheap Pioneer CD through a Beresford DAC
One day I will compare that to the Isis

I have quite a few SACDs and in the main they're excellent. My Ayre plays them natively.

Older DVD players can be total bargains. I've a Pioneer and a Yamaha and they're both excellent.

I always thought HDCD sounded better than standard CD but did not last long

HDCD was good but I suppose superseded by SACD and DVD-A.

Older DVD players can be total bargains. I've a Pioneer and a Yamaha and they're both excellent. Which is typical, Something that replaces something good to be only short lived. Utter stupidity this in But your just sat waiting till the laser packs up.. why there is so much electronics in land fills. The day CD/DVD are finished with can't be a day too soon.
