After a few months of doing other things, im listening to music more frequently now. I use my Schiit Asgard 2 and Grado RS2e a lot, but my Sonneteer system is a lovely sounding combo too. Here are some pics: flic.kr/p/ZGnebdflic.kr/p/YDuni8

Nice minimalist look there. Looks a well-lit room, too. Are you still in Cyprus?

I used to get seasonal affective disorder in the UK, so the light here is a real tonic. My lounge here used to sound like an echo chamber, bit it's been so much better after the room treatments. New sofas arriving soon, so hopefully that won't make much of a difference.

Sonneteer very nice equipment, a clean looking system sir I think it's the first matching equipment I've ever owned. Somehow it's just incredibly satisfying to listen to without ever getting in the way.

Good point on the light. Hadn't realised it was that much better. Closer to the Sun I guess ...... The boss was much impressed on her recent visit to Southern Spain

The Byron / Alabaster combination works very well, the Alabaster is an underrated amplifier, very musical and fun, it is a shame the Byron is no longer made, we still get asked for it even last month! I suspect the weather is where you are is much more enjoyable then currently in the UK!

I tried two Campions (each using one channel only, as advocated by Sonneteer) and it was lovely. I was a bit wary of bringing too much kit over here and sold one. I wish I'd kept it, bit I will pick up another Campion one day. I still have to hear an Alabaster I do,like the Byron though. It's lively and musical, yet has no tonal nasties at all. It seems to have a clarity yto it that I like too.

Now that im headed for new surroundings with loads of space, I decided to get back into vinyl. Although none of these bits are here with me yet, I have recently bought:
A Revolver with Super Arm. I always liked these decks and the Super is a really good arm. I'd like to try some DIY with this (PSU and Xerxes style isolation. An Orbe. Got a good price and wanted to hear what the fuss is about, I never liked the original Gyro but I'm told this is a good deck. An Alphason Sonata with Xenon MCS An Ortofon Quasar/MC30 Supreme. I have had one before and they are ok, if not great. Price was too good to miss. A Goldring 1012. A decent MM
I already have a great MM stage in the Myst and a Michell ISO for MC duties. I should be able to run vinyl in two systems. I might pick up another arm and cart so I have 3 working decks. Maybe a Nima? Always wanted to try one but will need a bargain after recent spending. It might be months before I'm all set up and running but I will post pics when it's all in place.

Nice - both the Revolver and Orbe should sound good.

I have a couple of arms already: A Xenon MCS and a Revolver Super Arm (a little-known Jelco-based special which is quite a bit better than the 250ST IMHO). I already have these on other decks, so I will likely buy another for the Orbe.
I just missed out on an SME 309 but I may still go down this route if the price is good. I may also go for an Origin Live arm , because they have been a big favourite of mine. I also like uni-pivots, but something like a Mayware Formula IV wouldn't look right on the Orbe. A Nima might suit it though. As ever, I will look for a bargain and I don't mind waiting.
I'm not sure the Orbe will be a keeper to be honest. Black has never been something I can easily live with,,especially satin or Matt. I could always "bling it up" with a different armboard and suspension housings, but it would still be an ugly black lump. Besides, they often look tacky when adorned this way. The Gyro looks like a carriage clock to me.
There's also the sound. I haven't heard a Michell deck I like. A mate assured me that the Ofbe sounds different to the Gyro, which I have never taken to. A few hours later, I saw this and made an impulse buy. It does appear well made though, so I may yet be persuaded. At least I will have first hand experience and a bit of fun!

I know what you mean - 'ugly black lump' sums it up very well. Just not much finesse about the way it looks. I've not heard one but to be a keeper it would have to sound amazing!

Which gain position on the Asgard do you prefer, Andrew? Grado's are not that too hard to drive.

I can just about live with the other one but higher gain has always sounded better to me, even when the designer says it isn't. Sonneteer advocate the passive inputs on their amps, I think they are vastly inferior. I generally find passives dull and lifeless, although the NVA stuff isn't that way. So far it's been in a minority of one in that respect though.

Yes, I see what you mean, Andrew.
Through certain headphones, I found the gain (on high) a little too forceful for my ears.
