Hi guys, im after a low mass arm to go on my jbe series 3 which I am half way through a full restoration on. I was thinking along the lines of mayware formula 4, audio technica at1100, adc alt 1, lmf 1-2, that kind of thing as I want it for high compliance carts like my at 150 and the at440mla. My modded rega rb251 has to stay on the lenco I built as a demonstrator, as its no good as a demonstrator without an arm. I narrowly missed 2 on ebay today, an at 1100 and a signet xk50 which is the same arm, outbid at the last minute on both. I cant seem to win an auction these days....
Condition isnt too important as long as its bits are in the proper places. If Anyone has anything, let me know
Cheers ant

You can use a MC with a Mayware Forumula 4. The Mayware 'T24' Head amp was a great thing too...As was the 'MC-7V' cartridge

I'd avoid the ADC ALT-1 arm. I had one decades ago and wouldn't recommend it. I fitted it to an AR XA and it didn't sound as good as the original arm modified being re-wired and an ADC LMG headshell fitted.

You used to see a lot of SME 'III/IIIS' arms on those JBE's..

They were cut specifically for the 3009 s2 and 3009 s3, or most of them were. You could also order them cut for the dynavector dv505.
Im sorted now, a deal has been struck that involves me buying and doing a complete rebuild on a rega r200 which will suit a lower compliance cart, in exchange for a mayware formula 4, which isnt really suited to the cart in question
Alot of the jbe's were sold with the f4 as a dealer fit so it would be a period correct arm for it too

I love saying this but there was no SME 3009,S3.. Its SME Series 'III' A totally different design to the '3009'.. btw: The Mayware is suited. I have a mate thats using it with a demanding 'DL103'

I'd have loved a JBE with an F4 back in the day.

Ive had 2 f4's on it before, its had the sonus formula 4, that one had a kink in the arm tube so that the cart was higher up wrt the pivot point, and the mayware f4, this will be the third one. The sonus was a pain in the arse to get the azimuth right on because of the kink, and had no rider weight because of the kink too so the vtf and azimuth were both set by the counterweight. Was a complete pita to set up. Made even worse by the fact that the tube was not sat square in the housing. In the end I had to make a jig to reset the tube so it was square in the housing and the kink was vertical. The mayware version is much easier but is still a finicky bugger.
I also used the original mayware I had on a technics sl150 that was a complete pile of crap and never kept speed even after a complete recap and a replacement ic that I was very lucky to get my hands on. The f4 was fab on the jbe, i had a sonus gold in it at the time.

Mayware was easily my fav Unipivot. I bought mind directly from Mayware mail order in the early 80's. I think i paid about £75 for it. Fitted it to my then Thorens 'TD160 Super'
JH Reproducers marketed a variant called the 'Formula 4' but i don't thing they had a mass ring like Mayware did.

Id love a 774, i built a lenco conversion that was specced for a 774 that had the standard wand and a 12" wand too. Heard it a few months ago with a benz gullwing on it and it was lovely
