Well here I am in the Bristol Bierkeller waiting for Starsailor in about an hour and I might not make it. Got to be the worst shithole of a music venue I've ever been too.
Dire beyond belief, I've been gigging for nearly 45 years and this is the worst hovel I've ever been in. Not only is it a shithole, but the sound is appalling, outrageously so. Quite annoying they think it's suitable to be frank!
Still, knowledge is power, I'll know never to come back, so I suppose that's something I can take away.🤔

Never heard of the place, Tim. Made a note now!
Hope Starsailor can rescue it.

Hope Starsailor can rescue it. Don't ever go near it Martin, you'd dislike it more than me I reckon. The sound was atrocious, but I managed to stay for 40 minutes, which was mostly material from Love is Here, the title track from the new album and when they played my favourite from the new one, 'Blood' I called it a day after that. Not totally wasted but that is most definitely the worst hovel I've ever been to for live music. Shithole is being kind and the noise of the bar and people talking was deafeaning, I kid you not.

the noise of the bar and people talking was deafeaning, I kid you not. That is a real shame, Tim. I have very bad memories of a gig at The Band On The Wall in Manchester, by Gordon Giltrap. Gordon was a trooper, and played on regardless, but the venue was inhabited by followers and hangers on of the then house band, Albertos Y Los Trios Paranoias. Self centred wankers, every last one of them. The only time the fuckers shut up was when Gordon played Heartsong. It was a bit of music they recognised, because it was being used at the time by some holiday programme featuring Judith Chalmers.

I have very bad memories of a gig at The Band On The Wall in Manchester, by Gordon Giltrap. Shame. We saw him at the Andover Lights and it was a really intimate concert with us centred in row 2. Was wonderful hearing some of my faves played live.

We went to see Dweezil Zappa last week. He's not allowed to tour under the name 'Zappa Plays Zappa' anymore because his brother has expensive lawyers. This tour was called "50 Years of Frank: Dweezil Zappa Plays Whatever the F@%k He Wants".
I saw FZ three times and know what an event one of his gigs was. The last time I saw Dweezil and his band I was very impressed. Even more so this time.
What a great night out.

Hopefully tomorrow's gig with Joss Stone and an orchestra will be a little more civilised - the venue is certainly good

Aye, but that's because you don't enjoy the music André, if ELP were still playing good shows in small accessible venues for twenty quid, would you go? No Tim. I saw ELP on the 'Black Moon' tour in the 90's i walk out before the end.

Fair enough . . . For me a live performance is the life blood of music and connecting with an artist is essential to really understanding what's behind the music, which is why I prefer small venues and being at the front. I like to see the whites of their eyes I also enjoy live theatre, opera and the movies. It's the immersive experience you get that I enjoy - it's my drug of choice.

That was the point I was trying to make André - I still get the same buzz I got in the 70's. The music has changed, the bands are different, but the high is just the same - more so in actual fact

That is the problem for me Tim the Change. I have to live without Live music & restrict my music taste/collection to the Era.. By no means limited, its just that i have to limit it.. When the wife mentions she wants to go see someone live. I cringe

Let's hope it's third time lucky today, after walking out of both Starsailor Saturday and Joss Stone last night.
Jace Everett and Shannon McNally tonight and I have high hopes, but after the awful show last night the bar isn't very high! WTF has happened to Joss Stone I ask?
Hey ho.

What was wrong with the Joss Stone concert, Tim? Was it Joss herself?

She's turned into a Las Vegas Cocktail Lounge performer, fine if you like that sort of thing but I went to hear her, not 80% Burt Bacharach!
I was dumbfounded TBH an artist of her talents doing mostly covers. Very odd.

Oh dear!
She needs another dose of Jeff Beck. They sound fantastic together.
