So now the question, what NOT so budget Android phone. Our Iphone using eldest daughter wants a new phone - Android this time.
Can't be too big, she feels that my Lenovo G5 and Marie's Nokia at 5" is too big! Has to have a very good camera. She doesn't like Samsung, not impressed with the way our other daughter's Huawei just cracked itself one night (I guess they have fixed that issue though).
I looked at Google Pixel 5" and Pixel 2 5.5" today. Perhaps a Sony something? Cameras are supposed to be good.
It's not going to be easy. What do you reckon?

The ultimate high end phone looks to be the Razer, and very nice it is too.
For Android and a good camera, what's wrong with a Nokia 6 or 8?

I have ve an Elephone S8. The camera isn't the greatest in that it's slow to focus but a software update is expected for this. The phone has a great 6 inch screen, superb colour, it's pretty much bezel-less. I'm very impressed for 200 quid. 4GB memory with 64GB of storage. Dual sim.

Glad to hear the Elephone S8 is so good, did plan on getting my dad that one but he selectd Honor 8 instead.
Yes, Razer phone looks great, but the colors on screen won't be as rich as Galaxy phones. Razer is my first choice when I upgrade soon, but I think I will have a hard time missing the edge display from Samsung. It's so nice being able to do a simple thumb swipe to get directly to favorite apps.
Soundwise, Xperia phones and LG v30 are apparently top notch.

Daughter came home with a Samsung A3. 4.7" screen. Nice looking phone. She's been an Iperson, but seems to like this one..

Just starting to scout possible Android phones for next year, the Honor 6X (which is really a Hauwei) is looking good. Having spent £400 on my Microsoft 950, I'm budgeting only half that for the next phone. It's going to be hard leaving the Windows 10 Mobile world behind, but the app situation is getting hairy and the potential complete loss of Tapatalk too much to bear.

Yes those two are massive dents in offering / usability.
It will be interesting to see what you find for £200 and how it compares to a £400 wphone.
I've only gone from one relatively cheapie to another..
As an aside; I've been using the night mode app to switch off the blue light as I find it distracting/annoying/fatiguing. Thing is I've found I like it on all the time now.. also have it on on my laptop. You just get used to the slightly different colouring of things.
I know designers of the HW/SW spend masses to get the clearest boldest most eye catching displays..
Am I just over sensitive or weird?
Might have to turn it off in the brightest sunlight come summer..

At the moment, the Honor 6X is looking like a good candidate.
The lighting doesn't bother me much. I do like variable brightness, though, to keep it dim in low light.

Way of life for me, Andr'e. The security regime to activate and use mobile banking apps is pretty stringent and no worse than internet banking in general.

Nail in coffin, I think. I love Tapatalk, I spend hours configuring and customizing and feeling good that I can have so much at my fingertips. If I couldn't use it, that would suck. But it's slightly possible that I would get over it, maybe. No online banking(if I understood correctly)? Asenine. Instant deal breaker. My gf had a Nokia Windows phone which she has kept and is fond of, but upon using it once in a while she remembers just how limited it was. Just curious, does anyone here use the app Squarecash? In the US it's available, it's really good. No more running to the ATM to lend or borrow money. You just send from your account to another account by selecting amount, send or request, select who to send to and it's done in 10 seconds. I've used it for two years, probably hundred transactions by now with no issues.

Never heard of that app, but all the mobile banking apps can do that, unless I misunderstand?

Ye, I think you're right. I can do it on my banks app, but with a little more time spent. Signing in, and exchanging bank account info with someone.
With Squarecash, you just ask a person what their screen name on there is add them to your list and anytime after that it's less than a 20 second process to send or request money.

Big yes to online banking and apps.
I signed up for the HMRC app and did it's registration thing with a barcode. Not sure I'll use it though as a tax returns though as the laptop is more convenient. Gotta embrace tech that is good / helps.
The uptake of apps that help millennials manage their money is huge. Much faster uptake than telephone banking (which I was doing back in the early 90's) and internet banking that's still growing.
