Just back from a lovely four day city break in Brugge. 25 degrees and blue, sunny skies (I got sunburn!). I stayed at the Grand Hotel Casselbergh, in the city centre (4 star and highly recommended) and imagine my surprise, when I discovered, literally just around the corner from the hotel, a musical instrument specialist and CD/vinyl "Alladin's Cave" called 'Rombaux.' I spent a good couple of hours in there, sifting through their extensive collection of their mainly classical and jazz albums, many on Japanese imports and audiophile editions! If ever you visit Brugge, check them out! Apparently, customers go there from all over Europe. translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=nl&u=http://www.rombaux.be/&prev=search

Sounds good Steve. What were the prices like? Comparable with UK for standard Red Book, with audiophile and Japanese imports between 20 and 30 Euros (depending on whether single or double CD's. Vinyl also seemed good value and there were a lot of 10" 33 & 45rpm pressings. I've not encountered anything like it in the UK and run by a friendly, enthusiastic proprietor.

They also carry the entire catalogue of ECM recordings (I've never seen so many shelves full!). www.google.co.uk/maps/uv?hl=en&pb=!1s0x47c350cf9773c95f:0xcc133bfc9ff2043b!2m19!2m2!1i80!2i80!3m1!2i20!16m13!1b1!2m2!1m1!1e1!2m2!1m1!1e3!2m2!1m1!1e5!2m2!1m1!1e4!3m1!7e115!4s/maps/place/rombaux%2Bbrugge%2Bopeningsuren/@51.2093793,3.2276684,3a,75y,81.42h,90t/data%3D*213m4*211e1*213m2*211sFIdWyo7Z-TMAAAQJOFS7zw*212e0*214m2*213m1*211s0x47c350cf9773c95f:0xcc133bfc9ff2043b!5srombaux+brugge+openingsuren+-+Google+Search&imagekey=!1e2!2sFIdWyo7Z-TMAAAQJOFS7zw&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjLh8r1iPzTAhVIFMAKHXpdAbgQoB8ImAEwCw

Sorry. For some reason, the Google link to interior shop photos does not work! Try Googling "Rombaux Brugge."

Thanks for the tip, Steve. Rombaux turned out to be just around the corner from our hotel. Not so good on rock, but fantastic for classical and jazz. A lovely store and very helpful manager. I enjoyed a large browse around the place and bought a copy of Ligeti's Lux Aeterna while I was at it.

Glad you had a chance to look around!
I was impressed to see he stocked the complete ECM catalogue of CD's and a lot of other Hi-Rez recordings.
As you say, not much Rock/Pop, but specialising in Classical, Jazz and World Music.
A real gem to find a store like this in such a lovely city!
Which hotel did you stay at?
