An easy and fairly reliable way of reckoning on how much an amp runs in class A before switching to class B is how warm it gets. If the casework remains cool (like my Belles), it's running minimum class A around the crossover point only. Substantial heat means that it runs class A for a goodly part, or even most of, the time.
Sliding bias is more difficult and out of scope of my reply!

Wobbly base for the rack next Jerry ! Well, you weren't wrong, Mike. Not a wobbly rack, but a wobbly amp. Using these springy things ... To produce this ... My goodness, just the same type of improvement as in wobbling the speakers. More vivid and present. Imaging more 3D and, err, vivid. That word again.

I've ordered another set of springy things to go under my Airlink balanced mains unit. I'm seriously impressed by what it does for the Krell amp.

Try some decent supports under your router, Jerry. As you're into streaming, your internet router needs some love.
A linear PSU, sorbothane feet and grounding box all work well for mine, not to mention the brilliant MeiCord cable between router and streamer.

I've ordered another set of springy things to go under my Airlink balanced mains unit. I'm seriously impressed by what it does for the Krell amp. Another set of boingy spring supports arrived today. Straight under the Airlink Balanced Power Supply unit, replacing sorbothane domes. Yep, another significant step in the right direction of 3D-ness and you-are-there-ness. Excellent value these things - £29 for a set of 4 from China. Arrive in about a week. I have another set on the way destined for my DAC. Curiously, while my Krell 400xi amp revelled in being fully spring-supported, the Crayon amp likes to boing at the rear but have sorbothane dome things under the front feet. It gets a bit bright and a touch thin sounding otherwise. I suspect in the short-medium term the Krell will go and the Crayon will stay. No rush to decide. Both are great.

Good to hear. Very nice VFM
Interesting about the Crayon being fussy

A new DAC to try out. Not that large, but surprisingly hefty. Yulong DA8. Used with its preamp section turned off. Very powerful and controlled bass. Soundstage/imaging seems very pleasing. Not so upfront as my Benchmark DAC1, a bit less 'zing' and excitement to the sound, so I will allow a bit of time for acclimatisation, but enjoying it so far.

ES9018 DAC chips, interesting. Let us know what you think when it's fully settled.

I enjoyed the Yulong DA8, in fact I was so impressed I went and bought another Yulong DAC, a DA ART Aquila (it has an AK4497 chip). Quite a similar sound, actually. A bit firmer, more solid sounding, even better staging than the excellent DA8. I'll be keeping both for now, I think. Build quality impresses on both - really nicely put together! New DAC a couple of days ago. Quite a fuss made of these back in the day - especially by Martin Colloms in Hifi Critic who called it a game changer and gave it a ludicrously high score for sq! Metrum Acoustics Mini with Octave PSU - a NOS (non over sampling) DAC from 2011. Cutely small (but not tiny). Easy on the ear as it has an extended but slightly relaxed treble. Loads of detail and the 3D focussed soundstage impresses. Free flowing and expansive dynamics, aided and abetted by the aforementioned slight treble smoothness to avoid any splashiness. Bass is very powerful, controlled and impactful - a few "Whoa!!" moments there! It is a very good sounding DAC. I can't really fault it tbh, it just sounds very enjoyable - forget the gear, what shall I play next? Bit of a pain that it doesn't have a headphone socket.

You're collecting DACs, Jerry. I feel a purge coming on soon!
I wonder what you'd make of a PS Audio previous generation or Ayre DAC? American sound, a bit different.

Hi Jerry, are those spring thingys weight adjustable- can you level them up etc? Yup! - you can use them with from 1 to 7 springs installed to fine-tune their stiffness. The springs are an easy push-fit, so it's very easy to change the springs round.

Cheers Jerry- if they work anything like my Townsend Audio Podiums ( springs) you would be on to a winner there!
You can also change to maintain levelness of the item they are supporting?

You can also change to maintain levelness of the item they are supporting? Yes, in effect there are 7 stiffness settings, so they are quite adjustable.

And it is massive enough that it bounces around very little! Amps (typically 15-20Kg) suspended on the spring things do wobble around if prodded. But I think that is fine.

Probably not advisable for a 6kg cd/dac that my wife also uses then. Nice amp by the way. I had a Kav300i and later a 300iL, then FPB200. I do miss having a Krell.
