What does Manage Computer | Devices say when you connect it? Do you get an unrecognised device or nothing? Have you tried it in a different USB port?

Bad luck, John. Is there any kind of pinhole reset switch in the NAD?

Do you have a spare DAC (Caiman?) to use with the Philips power amp?

Does the MOBO in your computer have an optical out, like mine? If so it might be worth your while picking up one of these to use in the interim. Not the last word in high fidelity, obviously, but I think you'll be surprised at how good they actually are for the pittance they cost. At least you could have some music for a minimal outlay.

I have a Halide Bridge converter - inputs USB and outputs RCA - that I can loan you, John.
If your DAC has an RCA digital input that would tide you over.

It shows how you have to have two of everything for troubleshooting purposes. Well done, John!
