Is there a point to this thread?

Is there a point to this thread? Does every thread actually need a point? I'd say this was here for amusement purposes rather than cutting edge social comment etc. which is much more interesting to me than who's got the most transparent kettle lead.

Afraid I agree with Paul wholehearted here Strat, it good to discuss all different topics, yes more so focussed on Hifi and music, but then again this sort of is.

I find myself not giving a damn. Whether I think they're good or not has nothing to do with how much money they have or whether they have some meaningless title.

It would be nice to know what they do with all the money , what we need is a list of what they have , cars , houses . race horses , outrageous collections etc

Back in the 90's Elton spent £250K a year on flowers alone. Keeps an army of small businesses in work across multiple sites / countries servicing their property.

The reason for my earlier response is that the wording of the thread title, and what the link leads to, can make it look like some niggardly comment about those people having those fortunes. So they're very wealthy, and they've made their names in the musical sphere. So what?

I know Jimmy Page had/has? a very ordinary hifi system, but lots of records. Most prob have ears that are shot to pieces I would have thought.

Charlie Watts (drummer with The Rolling Stones) has a fantastic car collection, and he has a suit made to match each car in his collection. Now for the really interesting bit. He doesn't have a driving licence, has never learned to drive, and gets off on wearing the relevant suit and just sitting in the respective car with the engine running. He's entry 7 on this list ultimate-luxury-community.com/top-10-enviable-car-collections

...and Nick Mason is no. 3. He's a bit more normal though - at least he drives the cars.

Agreed, he loves driving them which makes his collection all the more proper.

Agreed, he loves driving them which makes his collection all the more proper. So Charlie's collection is less proper because he doesn't drive them? Nonsense. Charlie's are less likely to have been broken, ever.

Cars are made to be driven. A static display of never-driven cars is rather sad.

Here's what I thought, in no particular order. Lots of Sirs and a Lord They are nearly all old geezers, the benefit of being at it a long time. This is McCartney's stash after it was halved What I think of the talents of this lot has no bearing on how much they are worth. Assume Lloyd Webber made his pile from those stage shows which never appealed to me. The Beatles earned a load of dough and still do. Had to look up Michael Flatley, oh that Michael Flatley the funny dancer bloke. Loads of people I cannot think of not in there, (Dave Gilmour is one I can think of) Surprised to see some like Eric, Tom Jones and Roger Waters Big gap from McCartney and Lloyd Webber to U2, the group not a person... Where do they get the figures from and is it remotely or slightly accurate ? I seem to be drawn to numbers in lists like this.
And I still wonder what do they do with their dough, what would I do and what might the assembled here do ?
And this lot pale into insignificance when you see the real big earners
