I have had this DAC for a few years now, as the upgrades and tweaking is finally coming to an end :DI thought I should start a thread on the product. It was one of my first DIY projects, so some of the finishing is not quite as well thought through as it could have been.
Here is the DAC in a semi upgraded state.
On the right a 12V unregulated PSU using chokes and caps, each DAC board has Tent shunt regulator boards to regulate the PSU, at the time of this picture this PSU powered just the DAC itself, both digital and analogue sides.
The blue PSU is for the small red WAV10 USB board.
It consists of one red mother board and two semi upgraded doc boards with Tent shunts on both digital and analogue sides.
Now I decided as my health was pretty wonky this year, that I would tune back into the 600 page, and counting, DIY audio thread. www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-line-level/224108-nos-192-24-dac-pcm1794-waveio-usb-input.html I thought I would strip the two DAC boards and mother board and repopulate them with upgraded components, add another two DAC boards, add 1/2 clock board, and build two more PSU's so we have the each channel and analogue and digital sections powered separately as well as loads of other bits that are too long to list. Well to be honest it was too much for me, I got a bit lost in the 600 pages and thoroughly confused.
I soon had a great offer from a good EE friend in Korea who has set aside my four boards as they were a bit knackered after I soldered and desoldered so many times. He replaced my boards along with all the Tent shunts with his version of the DAC which may be a bit better than stock boards, but I can't say for sure.
Here are the completed boards ready and tested, but they are still on the other side of the world, so its a few weeks yet before I can drop them into my DAC case.
