Thought this could make for interesting reading.
I recently sold my Naim CDX2 - primarily because I am moving towards streaming as my primary source, but also because I have finally realized that the Naim bubble is all a big con.

I sold a Rega RB300 arm with Groovetracer counterweight because I don't want to - and can't afford to have loads of Hi-Fi about the house. It was a more difficult item to sell than I expected.

I sold my trusty Chord SPM-1200E amplifier as I finally found something that was better at relatively reasonable cost.

I sold my LS50 5.0 speaker system to put towards the beginnings of my business. More than likely be more to come too!

My beloved Isobariks will go fairly soon with a decrease even in my large amounts of Mana
The big sale has started with the Naim CDX just gone, my lovely 32.5 and one of the HiCaps just going.
Once I had made space maybe even kit I don't want to sell will go

I'm trying to remember.. It was either a Behringer DCX 2496 I'd bought and modded to try or compression drivers JBL2345BEs or BMS4595mids.
Was a good long while ago.
I have a couple of amps to sell and another DCX but its getting round to it..

I sold a 2M Black as it was not getting used, a Technics EPC-U205 with Jivomstylus as I found one with the original stylus, and I sold my Firebotle Air power amplifier to upgrade to the Firebottle Monoblocks.

I have an unwritten rule that I have to sell before buying new gear.
Unfortunately I have been consistently breaking my own rule recently - sales to start soon!

The last big change was my speakers
Once I heard the PRV in a no baffle configuration I just fell in love with the sound so sold the Hawthornes/ A speaker at the time I had no intention of selling

I've not heard them but thought the higher end cdp's from Naim like Paul's are meant to be decent?

They aren't bad but the CDX2 is now over 4k and isn't that much better than the CDI which came out in 1991 for £1800 and inflation hasn't gone up that much. i.e. they are overpriced, over hyped and over pushed (due to Naim's sales model). I have always liked their sources from a sound deliver perspective. Naim amplification is equally expensive if not more so and can easily be equaled or bettered for a lot less money. |

Slight correction Paul: The CDI was £1600 when it first came out.
That makes the gap even bigger.

I have no interest in buying Naim gear but interested in understanding those that do.
If their gear is genuinely overpriced compared to their competitors then why do people continue to buy it. Is it because these people are not motivated by what we might perceive as value for money? Do they not consider other brands? I remember a time when people used to buy B&O in the same way.
Sorry - might be better in a separate thread...

The Naim NAP-500 was the final lesson for me in over-priced over-hyped equipment. My Chord SPM-1200E at the time easily outperformed it at 1/3 the price.

Last thing was my ortofon mc10 red body and matching mca 10 head amp. Just to raise abit of cash so i could buy a very very scruffy jvc ql-y5f that I wanted to restore.
Havent got round to that yet due to commissioned builds of other stuff. I did manage to get an original jvc headshell for it, and ended up having to buy an sl1200 counterweight to replace the missing original. Ive also resprayed the aluminium platter satin black as there was huge amounts of corrosion rhat was impossible to polish out. The corrosion in the edges was too deep. It works perfectly, but looks terrible.
I tend to keep old stuff around until I need some capital for some project or other then sell off a couple of bits to fund it

I sold some fancy Altec Lancing 806-A horn tweeters on this very forum, I sold them as money is tight and anything I'm not using might as well be sold.
I was going to use them as a big speaker upgrade there years ago........ if I haven't done it by now, it's just not going to happen.
