To get the most out of your music how much of your total hifi budget goes on the 'real' hifi and how much on the peripherals ? End result is to get the best possible sound for money spent. Russ Andrews started the topic by saying 10% on top of the kit. i blanched when I first read that and he would cos he's flogging bits !  Later on I agreed. Now I'm in agreement with our Tony. 70% on kit and 30% on the bits Where does this leave the average punter? Leave the kit as is and go looking at mains, supports, mains cables, interconnects, regenerator so and maybe more |

I would suggest mine is somewhere around 90/10, but I could imagine it moving to 80/20 or maybe even 70/30 over time, because I have been seriously impressed with the tweaks I have made over recent times.

Depends. Are you trying to spend the least amount of money or are you enjoying your hifi journey? I don't think there is a magic ratio, just spend what you feel comfortable with.

It works out at exactly 20% for me, going on my insurance values spreadsheet. That's regenerator, cables, rack, supports, other bits.

I've never really worked out how much my cables cost. They are mainly Yannis IC's and home made jobbies. Probably worth two packets of pork scratchins.

All my cables I made myself..........., so can't comment really.
Years gone by, I was a real big Russ andrews fan, I probably spent £4,000 onncables and supports and only had a basic Arcam system ! Glad I was able to sell it all for a great price
