It's about time you build a Raspberry Pi and put Volumio on it, Jules. That'll give you full blown Spotty on your system. And then you wouldn't need vinyl any more. I've been humming and hawing about my vinyl front end for years now, but could never quite get myself to give it up. Streaming with Spotify Premium was the death knell for it. Most of my LP collection has been donated to Oxfam and the kit is up for sale now and good riddance!

Gosh, that's a big move Jerry. Can you really get everything on streaming that you have on records?

Well, the acid test is that I haven't played any vinyl at all for many months, and I feel no inclination to do so whatsoever! The hard and software is just taking up space and finance that could be used for things that I do have an interest in. I guess if I could be bothered to invest in a pukka record cleaning setup and go through the whole cleaning rigmarole then LPs would be more enticing. But I just cannot be bothered with all that faff when I am entirely happy with digital music which plays silently and cleanly without any such effort. Like valves, LPs just get in the way of the music.

There's a thought for a thread (no disrespect Jerry) - "Is digital really the future or does it just make us lazy?"

Lazy? What's lazy about wanting to listen to music rather than faff around with bits of plastic?

Like valves, LPs just get in the way of the music. That's pretty thought provoking, Jerry. I must think on it for a while.

Ha! - well, it was intended half in jest, but half not. LPs are a hell of a lot of ritual and sheer time expenditure when you could just be listening to music instead!
As you know, a decently set up digital replay system can be hugely satisfying, mine is and I have come round to thinking that all the effort required by vinyl really is just a distraction from the main event. I just don't do it any more.

Perhaps you could separate out the LP musings here and put them in a separate thread?

For continued discussions.
As you probably know, I rarely play classical LPs any more as the noise can seriously get in the way of the music. Rock etc. LPs are different and I still enjoy them.
For me, my enjoyment of classical moved to CDs a long time ago.

I started turning my kit off at night some months ago, say October. Probably in December I decided not to turn on my phono pre amp and PSU for the Technics unless I knew I was going to use them They have stayed off since then as the queue of CDs to listen to is huge.
I will keep my vinyl and kit, for now at least. This from a set up with no file based front end...

Yes I'm about to Give up vinyl aswell. I get the pride of ownership, and the tinkering can be fun and part of the connection with your Hifi, but my TT sounds no where as good as my digital front end, I wish it did because I fancy getting stuck in to that medium, however I'm well aware that I may be comparing apples with pears, as my TT is a good introduction to a half decent player where as my digital front end is sumptuous. Did I just say sumptuous on a Hifi forum??

I listen pretty much exclusively to vinyl. I have cd and computer audio via a mac mini. I havent used the mac in months, and the cd player sparingly.
I dont really have the time to listen to the system as it is, but i dont really care much about the digital portion of it.
With the mac I find myself skipping songs, playing something half way through then going to something else. With cd kinda the same. I could quite happily do without either and not really be bothered.
I have to be in the mood to sit down and listen which isnt that often these days with the kids and constant demands on my time (sure we have all been there) the deck is what I use when i do have the time. And people leave me alone when the deck is spinning. Digital just doesnt do it for me and quite frankly i dont know why. Its much easier, probably sounds better and I have much more choice of music with it.
But then everyone is different. And that is good
