What is it connected to? Is that sinking too much current, which would result in no bass? You would expect the output impedance to be quite low.

Hi Martin. It is the bass that is too full and slightly overwhelming. Rob.

If you are not unduly loading it, then it sounds like a fault. Are both channels the same?

Yes, both channels.

I would suspect something in common like the power supply, then. Hard to say more without a circuit diagram.

Will send the circuit diagram later.

The circuit diagram is virtually unreadable when uploaded with Pissbucket, so I will PM (hopefully) a PDF version which is readable if enlarged. Martin, it doesn't look like I can add an attachment to a PM?

No you can't, sorry. Flickr can do high resolutions?

I will print it off and take a pic and see how that goes.

Hope this works! This is just one channel out. The bottom of the pic has no more components shown, just the continuation of the signal connections.

That output 100R resistor is where you're seeing the 100R output impedance, but the output pair Q2/Q4 should be turned off with no power applied (except for the meter's test current). Are you sure those output transistors are ok and have not gone short circuit or are mounted the wrong way around?

UPDATE: I posted about this on AOS and got some suggestions for a fix. I am happy to say that having changed the values of the op-amp decoupling caps it now works as I assume it should. It may need some fine tuning once I get used to it. It was also suggested that it might sound better if the output transistors were removed and that section shorted so that it is driven only by the op-amp. I am currently using a simple pre like that so I will prob leave this as is. Thanks for all the interest in this.
