As for regenerators.....noisy things, electrically, to maintain the same waveform with non linear loads (and a transformer with rectifier is definitely a non linear load), the regenerator has to be oversized by 1.6x. The distortion figures for regenrators vary from 3% (linear loads) to higher. You're in danger of over-generalising there. Different regenerators have different topologies, from the computer-based UPS types upwards. Some use switching, other linear amps.
My regenerator is oversized by a factor of over 4x when seriously giving the system welly, much more when idle. I'm happy with the power capability.
My incoming distortion as of now is 2.6% THD, output is 0.1% THD. I have no idea for which model you're quoting such poor figures.

You are talking nonsense. Pinkie did open with "I don't understand".

Why do us hifi guys like repeating ourselves so much! Its only hifi ffs! It's a natural tendency when it's not been said here before.
RD is correct, a BPS is like any other piece of connected equipment and is fully protected by the house breaker. If anything goes amiss on the output end of the BPS, it will still trip the main breaker. Even an overload will be transformed (that's what a transformer does) to the primary side and will trip the breaker, if the BPS is a heavy duty one.

You are talking nonsense. Do you realise what has to fail in order for that to happen. You have a RCB in your house, you don't need another one. The very very worst that can happen is one leg of the balanced line i.e. 120v (considered relatively non lethal) will be available and if any significant current is drawn it will still trip the house RCB. It is like putting a plaster on top of a plaster. You really should stick to accountancy. Please don't keep telling me I'm talking nonsense. I prefaced my question by saying I didn't understand. Why can't you just answer a question civilly. My understanding, from the qualified electrician I have just consulted, is that the RCB is tripped by a differential between the live and neutral feeds on the primary circuit, and that they would not be affected by an event on the other side of the transformer. A circuit breaker (fuse) on the supply side of the transformer might be tripped by an excessive load (fault condition) on the output side of the transformer, but the reaction times are nowhere near as fast, and the sensitivity much less than with RCB's. That's why we have RCB's to protect us and don't just rely on circuit breakers (fuses) The potential difference between 2 of the wires in the lead my dog chewed is 240v due to the phase difference. Even at 120v - the issue of whether it is lethal or not depends on the current drawn. Are you teasing me? Are you telling me that all mains voltage in the USA or Japan is non-lethal, unprotected, and you can cheerfully stick your fingers in it? I do stick to accountancy. I ask advice of qualified engineers when considering doing anything with electricity. The highly qualified engineer I discussed this with gave me helpful explanations of why some mains treatment might benefit the sound produced by some audio equipment, and so I am now interested to learn more. But I am concerned that anything I try is safe for me and my family. FFS more second hand nonsense and verbosity. Why do I have to teach you, and even if I do you wont listen as you are only interested in your own voice. 120v is only potentially lethal if you have bad heart or are standing in a metal bucket of water on a damp floor when you grab hold of it. One leg has a fuse in the plug to protect the lead, that is what it is there for. When that fuse blows the current differential between legs will trip the house RCB. I don't know who the hell this electrician of your is but he should go back to college. Each RCB increases the source impedance and partly defeats the benefit of the balanced mains. Each RCB in line would cause as much sonic damage as tripling the VA of the balancing transformer would remove. It is not required under the safety regs and the people saying it is necessary are repeating bullshit.

I wonder how all this is going to change when you move to France!!! No fused plugs here plus half the house wiring will be on little plastic blocks. Is it worth trying to sort anything or should you wait until you have your 'permanent' situation?

Most of us on these forums have little or no technical knowledge. When we need to know something, we rely on those who are qualified to tell us what we need to know. Call it teaching, call it help, it is normally offered in a spirit of friendship and support and any misconceptions pointed out with good intentions and usually in a friendly manner.
Its would be a pity if this normal spirit of co-operation is spoiled by some personal animosity or grievance. I hope to see this forum continue to be a place where the aggression is left elsewhere.

If I am treated with due respect I respond with it. If I am pursued by a prick, who ever he is, I will respond to it.

Richard, you are being challenged because you are being rude. Don't call someone a prick and maybe your advice will be appreciated.
No more, please.

You see once more a post designed to try and wind up. I don't see why. All we are suggesting is that respect is a two way thing. I have always thought that rudeness is unnecessary in any situation.

I didn't call anyone a prick, please re-read the post. It was a generic term as to how I would react. I seriously couldn't give a toss how (a lot of) people take my advice as you see it. In reality I don't presume to advise anyone and I defy you to find any post from me containing advice, my posts contain information. What people do with that information is up to them. I react when that information is challenged for erroneous or fatuous reasons.

I am responding, you know like a mirror being stuck in front of you. Anyway why are you so interested, all your contribution has been so far is to try and create conflict with me. Did I start to want conflict with you, no, I don't think I addressed a post to you about anything, all you have had is like responses, the same as the others have had.
Seeing as every one of your posts has been about me and not the subject what do you think your contribution to this thread has been.

Seeing as every one of your posts has been about me and not the subject what do you think your contribution to this thread has been. You have addressed the possibility that something is my not business before. We are all members of this forum and it is hoped will all try and make a contribution to its success. I read this thread because it is there. I read many threads to which I make no contribution because I am either not interested or have nothing to contribute. However you try and deny it, you were clearly being extremely rude to another member. That member and I are friendly enough that he will be visiting me on his way through France. If I see someone being rude to a friend, it would seem very remiss of me not to object in some way. As all the other posts about this also suggest that your comments were rude, I trust you can see why I reacted. My posts are not designed to create conflict, rather the opposite, to try and ask others to avoid it.
