Listening to 'Affinity' and absolutely loving it … I will be buying it on vinyl (not a Vertigo swirl!) I wonder if there is an all-analogue re-release? My god - my first ‘Prog’ lp, what’s happening to me?? ‘Night flight’ is best thing I’ve heard in a while. The instrumentation is amazing!

I'll admit it. ever since i first went on internet forums donkies years ago, my main goal was to be an Early Prog Evangelis. The reason being, Most early prog was pretty much Obscure/Underground. No one spoke of it especially Collectors of the genre. I was growing ever much annoyed with Modern music being labeled as Prog. This infuriates me beyond belief. Prog was a short lived music style, best left alone not being made a complete arse of imho.
Ive been banned from every Prog forum & got into argument galore over it.

I think it healthly to have that passion you have Andre and would agree that prog went up its arse. For myself I tend to prefer artists with progressive influnces rather than all out prog.

I'll be buying the Repertoire - half-speed mastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road is good enough for me, he knows what he's doing. Will check out Room for sure, cheers ....

A look at the Affinity album on Wikipedia and I spy the name of someone I rate very highly, namely one Mo Foster. I became aware of Mo because of his involvement with Jeff Beck's "There And Back" album, and Mo was in the touring band as well (along with Simon Phillips and Tony Hymas). I saw them at Manchester Apollo in 1981.

He was still with Affinity in 1972, Keeping the band name on. After Linda Hoyle & Lynton Naiff departed they recruited a new Singer: Vivienne McAuliffe from Principal Edwards Magic Theatre
I have the CD entitled Affinity '71-'72 which is the later rehearsals & Demos..

If you can't get enough of the original Affinity, Linda Hoyle first solo album has a couple tracks on it that sound very Affinity. For interested [Im certainly not, aint 70's is it ] Linda made a new album 44 years down the line. Mo Foster is Producer

I've been trying to work through your recommendations. Was listening to Cressida's 'Asylum' today and that's another on the shopping list - another half-speed mastering job at Abbey Road so should sound good ...

Watch this space with Repertoire, they issued a lot over important early prog albums on CD over the years, me thinks more will surface on Vinyl in the long run..

I read precious few music books, but I did read Mo Foster's recollections in his fascinating book, British Guitar Player. Tells of how poor they were when touring in Affinity. He is a studio musician and knows them all from that period. Brings up a wealth of musician prog/fusion names that will be way over the heads of you noobs here.
.... Chris: damn ,WHERE IS THAT RECORD STORE! Three Gravy Trains! (And they tell me that if you want to find good 70s records in Blighty, to forget it.)

Told you before Wallace. You can get Swirley Vertigo in UK if you look but yew never believe me, but no chance in the condition me wants .. Affinity were Top notch musicians but as with most these short lived Prog outfits back then the lack of money forced them to pack up unless they had a bit of money to start with...

Ha, yes well and they would have been corrrect! That was a flea market in Berlin. The three copies were in three different stalls in the 2 markets we went to that day. Welcome to The Audio Standard, by the way.
