How important is *reproduction* to most ? Nor at all from what I see of 'normal' people

I think the enjoyment curve may have risen more quickly, but social networking would have kicked in anyway and turned people's brains into jelly regardless of music.
The thing to differentiate is the use of music as background compared with the enjoyment of music to the exclusion of everything else. I fear the latter represents a very small proportion of listeners.
