I don't think gain can be adjusted. Are you using it as a preamp or just DAC?

Just a dac and headphone amp. Im nearly sure stan mentioned you can adjust the gain on the headphone section.
He offered to set it up prior to dispatch for my 700s but my intention was to use it in my av set.
But its so bloody good I put in my main rig!!!!

Yeah, it is a superb DAC. Maybe stanleyb can answer the question directly?

Im crap at computer stuff....dont suppose you know how to set the gain on the seg? Missing my capella Brian has been converted to cans by me recently so horse traded my c2/650s/cappella. The gain adjustment is behind the volume knob. But that knob is a nightmare to remove the first time. So I tend to open the DAC and turn the gain shaft from the inside of the DAC

As long as the right formula mix was used the prescription would likely have had an immediate impact....

Funnily enough my son felt duty bound to try the same medical solution-utterly selfless.....thats maybe why we thought the segs were so good?
Thanks again Stan.

Chris, Already planted the seed....theyre young ears pick up stuff my motorcycle ravaged ones dont. My son has met most of the Scottish mafia and gets on great with them.
Great seeing them get into music and the kit that produces it.

I reckon the HPA section of the DAC took about 100 hours to burn in.
Well worth setting the gain to match your cans.
I found using a leatherman blade to prise the volume knob off-rotate it and prise the knob off incrementally.
I set mine wide open ie all the way round to the right for the 700s suited my ears best.
Excellent bit of kit....my son has been borrowing my 700s of late-his mate heard them on the SEG and ordered a pair!!

Showing the current state of my SEG after various mods with the kind help of TonyC. Tonight I just replaced the Tokin supercaps with a couple more of the K caps (with the blue-purple flash in C87/C88 positions). All the reservoirs have been replaced and Tony replaced a few of the surface mount caps with some more K caps. To finish off, there is some RFI shielding above and below the circuit board. I also put an SR Red in the fuse position. The sound quality is incredible and belies the SEG's low price. This is the equal of several far more expensive DACs that I've heard and betters many more.

Nice move, John. Adding an SR Red fuse to my SEG certainly opened up the sound.

Now finally got that vividness I heard in your system on cello and violins. Compulsive listening experience. I might even end up listening to more classical music something I never imagined.

Interesting... I will have to try one of these fuses at some point.

Re reading the Ebay ad that's 5 for £16 !
Sounds like an insane bargain - or maybe a technology reaching maturity - maybe both

I think it says there are five in stock and they are five mm in diameter, Mike. Your sixteen quid only gets you one.

The stated 5x20mm are dimensions.
