Great thread Martin. Here is my rather large 50W Wonfor Class A Power amp. I have been away for a wee while and returned to find that it has developed a minor fault, I turned it on and only one channel is working. I designed the case myself and had it made at the local metal shop, the heatsinks and right channel PSU was surprisingly easy to unbolt and lift out, I must be more clever than I thought , or maybe not. Anyway hope to have it up and running when parts drive from Farnel.

Thanks, I'm just re starting my second Wonfor build the one I started maybe 10 months ago, but 9 months or so in hospital kind of got in the way of production time I plan to stack the two amps on top of each other to create a Wonfor Tower of Power. Hopefully it will work out as I planned.

Mind the heat output!
Very glad that you're on the mend, Sov.

I'm just waiting for Colin W. To pitch up and show us all he has made. That bloke needs his own production reference library, and it's not just Hifi either, he has designed and produced so much; from aerospace to colossal industrial power supplies etc, etc..... And he is still going. I take my hat off to the bloke!

The big girl is up and running again, it was just an internal fuse in the end. For the last couple of days I've been using a classic Exposure X amp to see me through, I used to be a huge John Farlow Exposure fan using almost the top of the range amps, but this little Expo X I thought was excellent. To such an extent I found myself searching the forums and Ebay for old exposure amps, I couldn't help it. Now that my SECA is fixed I spent 20 min listening to the same Hendrix album I was listening to last night on the Exposure X. And I emediately realised why I have become so convinced by the performance of Colins SECA amps. Great depth of sound, deep controlled bass, very detailed and very wide and convincing.

Martin, the replacement fuses I used were slow blow rather than ceramic so I need to change them. I may be wrong, but was it not you who identified a great internal fuse that was surprisingly good ?

By "internal fuse" I take it you mean 20mm fuses? The AMR Gold fuses are good sounding and not too pricy.

Ive been working on a massive DAC upgrade for a while now. I have the DIY DDDAC (http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-line-level/224108-nos-192-24-dac-pcm1794-waveio-usb-input.htm) and I have not heard anything quite like it, sounding totally 'un-analogue'. In the past I have upgraded all the power supplies and other bits and bobs, but this time I have taken the actual DAC board and mother boards out. I have stripped down the existing DAC board to just the unpopulated board, I have bought another three DAC board and I am upgrading all caps, resistors, striping out regs and fitting expensive Tent shunt Regs on both the analogue and digital sides etc, etc. and I'm upgrading the mother board at the same time. My biggest concern is it won't work when I put it all back together

I'd have to go into the classroom for a very long time to begin to grasp what all that does
Most impressive

Not at all Mike. AL I am doing is using the design of others and following instructions from what others have done. It is a bit like looking at a recipe and then baking the cake. It is when things don't work that I find that I am stuck, but the people on the forums are very helpful and keen to see you succeed. Give it a go.

My soldering abilities let me down right away. Then there is lack of patience. Maybe to save my life...
